We stayed a total of 5 nights at this hotel, so we managed to experience the hotel to it's full potential.
Rooms: There are only studio rooms, so if you need a suite that requires a seperate bedroom, you may want to look at another property. However, the rooms very very nice with ample space with 4 people in them. The beds were comfortable and we enjoyed the fact that there was an actual dining table to seat 4. We've found some hotels are trending towards on removing this, so it was a welcomed sight given we had kids and ate mostly at our hotel room.
Breakfast: The breakfast area got pretty crowded, especially nearer to closing. Food was fair, waffles, some proteins, cereals, bread. I will say that the breakfast staff did phenomenal at keeping up, but it did seem that they were overworked and would suggest a second body to assist. There were times when things like bowls would require washing, but the staff on hand was busy re-stocking other items, so a two-buddy system may be beneficial during the breakfast time.
Location: Great location as it was just off the freeway. Took us about 10-15 minutes to reach San Diego Zoo and other touristy attractions. Given it's on the business side of the freeway, the location was very quiet and felt very safe. It was a 5 minute drive to reach some shops and eateries which was abundant and also lots of selections
Pool: We did manage to test out the pool one night. It was pretty standard. There is a nice fire pit that they had running and also an area to BBQ.
Other amenities: Laundry came in handy given we had some beach days. Be prepared to come with lots of quarters or you can easily download an app to access the machines remotely. To note though, the app only allowed certain denominations which meant there was always a leftover that I guess the app or hotel pockets? I did find that by using the app and using the largest load, it did not require the extra 50 cents it stated on the machine..a small win I guess?
Issues: Ants...lots of them. Normally, I wouldn't complain about this., but, given we had a baby in tow and were washing bottles and so forth, we did bring the issue up with front desk. The hotel was fully booked, so we could not change rooms and were told someone would come by to spray environmentally friendly bug spray. Unfortunately, the issue and ants persisted. My wife and I just continued to wipe them off the counters, desks, and tables to the best of our ability.
Staff: Was very friendly, we were always welcomed back. They did assist us in all our questions and was knowledgeable about the area. I did run into an issue with my parking bill as it was not charged towards the CC I presented versus the one on file. Not a showstopper, but I would have wished this was somehow caught as I would have enjoyed a better exchange rate.
Overall, a good Towneplace to stay at! I would recommend the hotel for...
Read moreThe hotel seemed like a decent property overall, but the CUSTOMER SERVICE was SUBSTANDARD. As Titanium Elite members we stay in Marriott properties upwards of 80-100 nights/year. My colleague booked this property at 11:10pm Sept 30th on points and then tried to add me to the room by calling the front desk (with all the relevant information on hand should they require it). This is a pretty straightforward process and weâve done it hundreds of times at Marriott properties around the world without an issue ever. The night auditor (front desk) refused to add a secondary name to the room and demanded that my colleague call Marriott central reservations and go through a more stringent verification process to add my name to the room âas per policyâ. I explained that this step has never been required in any of our previous stays at any Marriott properties ever, that we had just been on two long flights and spent $40 USD on an Uber to get to the hotel. As incompassionate as he was uncompromising, the employee refused to budge. I asked him to cancel the reservation and he said he would have to call the supervisor who was not on the property to do so. I told him that the primary guest (my colleague) was delayed in Los Angeles (2.5 hours drive away) and he said âwell I guess youâre going to have to wait for him to arrive (meaning I would have to wait until 2am to get into the room). I went outside to make some phone calls, and when I went back to enter the building to talk to the employee once more to see if he had cancelled the booking he would not open the glass doors to let me into the lobby and made me talk to him through the glass - giving me the impression that he had viewed me as a threat. It was completely unnecessary, indignant, and disrespectful. At no point did I exhibit any aggressive behaviour or tone or raise my voice when attempting to deal with him. That definitely left a sour taste in my mouth. All to say, I ended up booking another Marriott property down the road in the exact same manner (colleague booked it with points on the app, then called and added my name). I schlepped my luggage 8 minutes down the road and checked in without any problems at allâşď¸. Based upon this negative experience, I do not recommend this property whatsoever. The employee could have handled it very differently! IMHO Find a different...
Read moreI wanted to share the great experience me and my family had at the TownePlace Suites in April 2025. We stayed for 5 days and were very pleased with the hotel and the warm staff.
The room was well equipped for us and 2 little kids. The only issue I would say is the bathroom door does not lock, so that could be an issue to some. The kitchen is well equipped but there is no safe in the room (if that matters). We had no concerns with any of our items being at risk, so it didn't end up being an issue for us. We did have an issue with one of our queen beds, but the front desk promptly had someone come check and moved us to a new room with much delay.
The breakfast was well stocked and sufficient for our needs. The 3 main items (ie eggs/meats) were changed up daily, so that was a bonus. They had cereals, breads, bagels, yogourt/oatmeal bar as additional items. Great way to start the day and also save some money. The bonus was the staff that was supervising the breakfast area, as they were very pleasant, always smiling and very attentive. Thank you so much for that.
With that, I would also like to commend the entire hotel staff for always being warm and friendly (especially with our two young ones running around at times) and always greeting us. The housekeeping staff was very friendly and always welcomed us whenever they saw us, along with the front desk staff. Little things but very appreciated.
The hotel itself is kept very clean and the 24 hour coffee station (great tasting coffee btw) is a great bonus.
The location is in the middle of office buildings and neighbouring townhomes, but very quiet and very easy to get in/out. Close to an In/Out Burger and some other restaurants, which was a hit with the family. Parking was $15 daily, which I felt was expensive given the location, but saw that pretty much all the hotels near central SD charge for parking (which is on the lower end in comparison).
TLDR: Great central hotel with all the necessary facilities and services. Would recommend to families given the rooms and...
