My husband and I stayed here for one night after Townplace Suites by Marriot cancelled our reservation the same day, “due to unforeseen circumstances,”and booked us just down the street at this property. We were only in town for a work training I had for one day. The staff upon check-in, and the maintenance guys were very nice, which is why I am even giving a 2 star review. The first room they gave us, we opened the door into a room that was at least 100 degrees. Apparently someone had left the heat on instead of the air. The maintenance guy came up and when we opened the door he says “oh it’s very hot.” He messed with the thermostat and said “ok it’s blowing cold air now, maybe 15 minutes and it will cool off.” I said no way are we staying in this room and I called the front desk to ask for a new room. They gave us a new room, one floor up and didn’t offer to bring us new keys so we had to go back down to the front desk and get the new keys. We get to the new room, the air was working great but the room smelled terrible like smoke. I called the front desk to let them know and they sent another maintenance guy. A different one from before and he was very nice. He agreed that it smelled like smoke. He said he could spray an air freshener spray but that it was really strong, but it should take away the smell of smoke. We said no problem we were going to go out for dinner anyway so that was fine. He said that the strong smell should better by the time we get back. When we got back, the spray did not help at all, the room still smelled like smoke. We were tired and not going to move rooms again. The beds are very uncomfortable, very firm mattresses. In the morning as I am getting ready for work, my husband is sitting at the desk, working remotely and tells me he just killed a roach that was walking across the desk. It was a baby roach, but a roach still the same. I had to go to a training for work and I stopped at the front desk on my way out and told the girl at the desk about the roach and she just said “ Oh Im sorry about that.” Then when I get back to pick up my husband he tells me that while he was working, a maintenance guy came and said he wanted to put bug killer stuff down the sink and shower. My husband told him the roach didn’t come from the drains it was on the desk. He asked where on the desk and my husband finally told him he was on a call for work and didn’t have time to deal with it. The staff had been nice enough to give us a 4pm check out since their other property cancelled our reservation at the last minute. I told my husband to talk to the front desk upon check out about the issues with the smell in the room and the roach. I figured it would be a different front desk person since I had left at 730 am and my husband was checking out at 4. The girl at the front desk just said that she already knew about the roach. She took off the daily parking fee and added points to our Marriot account. Despite that, after all of the issues, I feel our room should have been comped! We will not be...
Read moreThis was my eighth SD Pride in 2024, and my fourth wearing my fursuit “Joe Bear.” Like last year, we only stayed one night on Saturday July 20th - we arrived before 7am to attempt to get an early check-in as we had successfully two years ago. Sadly, like last year we had no chance to get early check-in as the hotel was PACKED with sport tournament families, and was SOLD OUT the entire weekend. So, just like last year - we decided to store our luggage behind their front desk and checked-in manually (due to the worldwide computer meltdown the weekend of July 18-21, they were writing down the names and credit card authorizations on paper to follow up on checking in. When we returned later on, there was a line out the hotel doors. My friend and ‘yours truly’ received luggage tags, and feeling confident that our luggage was safe with the hotel staff - we headed out to Hillcrest for the SD Pride Parade and we had a BLAST!! Pics to follow. We decided to leave Balboa Park after the parade as I was exhausted wearing my bear in hot weather, and I was looking forward to the hotel pool and jacuzzi. Once we had lunch at IN ‘N OUT and visited Target for toiletries, we got back to the Courtyard to finally check-in after 3pm. We found out we only had one King Bed bed reserved and not 2 Doubles, and had our room on the second floor and not the third floor as requested. Service was a bit difficult - at the afternoon check-in, the Hispanic gentleman at front desk flatly refused my request for later check out on Sunday (2pm for Bonvoy Gold) but as I came back to the desk later that day, a young lady at front desk said it would be no problem and jotted down my request. Good thing I asked again!! To add, I usually get credit for parking as I have a CA Handicap plaque for my vehicle, I guess starting this year they charge $18 a day! Why? Now, for the trifecta - when they did renovations last year, they closed and filled up the wonderful jacuzzi this hotel once had, replaced with a ugly hammock! The manager said it was cost prohibitive and Marriott corporate is now “doing away” with jacuzzis in their midsized properties like Courtyard. All these Takeaways, yet the room rate continues to go up. Unable to use the pool due to the invasion of Ken’s and Karen’s with their sport-minded Jack’s and Jill’s - I resorted to a shower and relaxation. I did use the pool on Sunday, thanks to the sport groups leaving and by having the late checkout to use the aquatics. Overall, it was “just ok”, as it could’ve been better. The hotel had no control over the global computer malfunction that froze their computers and payment machines, but their customer service took a hit as well as the hotel amenities are almost nonexistent. Still, thanks to the hotel staff for doing their best under extraordinary situations. THREE CLAWS UP!!! Hope to return next year for SD Pride 2025, marking my 10th Year coming here and I will stay for the festival. Peace...
Read moreThis place is a joke. When we were headed to San Diego our flight got delayed so we tried calling the Courtyard Kearny Mesa to let them know we were still coming but would be getting in late, around 10pm. Little did we know when calling the hotel we would be rerouted to a call center who said they have no way to add notes to the hotel nor could they contact the hotel directly. Finally, after several attempts we figured out how to navigate their (awful) phone system to get the front desk.
The room itself is the epitome of a two star hotel. It’s fine and we didn’t get bed bugs, but that’s about the best I can say. Otherwise it’s very dark, small, and outdated and the furniture had stains on it.
After we checked out and received a $0 bill (we booked through Priceline and paid them) we found a charge for $600+ a few days later that we did not authorize. We tried calling to have this corrected only to have their phone system not work at all, not even a ring. We tried from multiple phones with the same result. Finally, the next day we got back through but were told they were busy with checkouts and would call us back. Surprise surprise… no call back. I called again the next day and got Taylor who said the charge was a mistake and they would refund right away and email me confirmation.
You’ll never believe it - neither happened Sheesh. Somehow, we checked a few days later before disputing the charge only to find we were refunded the $600+ BUT THEN CHARGED IT AGAIN ON THE SAME DAY!!! What in the actual f*? They just go around charging people without authorization?!?
So I called again today and got the front desk who when they answered was mumbling to a coworker about her day off as I yelled “hello??” into the phone before someone finally said, “oh, thanks for holding.” I asked for a supervisor and was transferred. When this supervisor picked up the phone she said hello many times as though she couldn’t hear me before eventually hanging up. Tried calling back, their phone number doesn’t even ring.
I’m done dealing with them and will be contacting my credit card to dispute. But truly, the least professional hotel I’ve probably ever dealt with. AVOID...
