SD Nails — Local services in San Diego

Lisa, the owner has been doing my nails for about 1.5 years or so now. She tells me today, 2 days before my appt that she can't do my nails anymore. That was very UNPROFESSIONAL. The funny thing is everytime I have an appt I feel stress because I KNOW she is going to mess up my nails somehow. I end up fixing the shape or extra gel on the sides when I get home. She does a decent job, but, not good or great and her prices are too high for the mediocre job she does. YOU, the customer, have to tell her when your nails are crooked, or nail length is uneven, or you have 3 different nail styles going on (square/round etc). She seems to ONLY be comfortable doing short, thin nails, nothing else. This is the first place I've ever gone that they can't simply do a nail polish change with gel, she has to do an entire fill. She is sorely lacking in her skills and it's obvious. Finding another nail place was not a priority so I dealt with it. She is a know it all and can't accept that she's done something wrong. I had to leave one time with different color yellows on my nails and toes because she assumed what yellow I had on my toes instead of making sure she got the right one. I've been taking my wife here for the past couple of months, and I have to say this is one of the best nail salons we've been to!!!

I get my wife's nails done every two weeks (for the past 4 years) and it took us a while to find a balance between talent, value, and hospitality, but SD Nails has all of that! Christina and her artists are all so sweet and pamper my wife the way she deserves. Foot and leg massages with the pedicure, nice massage chairs, and a complimentary drink with the service.

The set I am posting has been my wife's favorite set in years. Christina is a very talented artist, and she is also very patient (because, yes, my wife is a high maintenance client. 😅) She also helps her take care of her natural nails, which is something my wife's previous nail tech failed to do without my knowledge. She is upfront with what she can and cannot do, but she never fails to amaze us with her designs.

Overall, a 10 star experience if I could rate it as such. Their prices are very fair too, so I always try to tip well as a thank you. And believe me, they're worth...

Came in an hour before they closed and they graciously took me in to do a mani& pedi gel. LInda, Becky and Christina were all very sweet and provided a pleasant experience. I noticed that they are one of the few salons around that have their "sterile" equipment in a sealed bag...but this time it was not fully sealed and the tools were left on a tray...left me a little nervous if they were cleaned before the last client. Having come in an hour before they closed would make one probably rush through their work, and while the nail work was great, the rest of the massage service was quiet rushed and lacking in comfort. Any other day I think I would have left a little disappointed...but again the time was a constraint. All in all i'd come back.

Side not: not sure what is going on but their is a funky sewage smell either coming from the outdoors or the facility, but it wasn't very pleasant smelling that while trying to relax. Probably not their fault but just something...
