The location of this hotel is probably among the best of the best at any ski resort. From the front door, you have maybe at most 100 steps to chair lifts. I can’t over emphasize the location.
But that’s the only good thing about this place.
There is a coffee shop in the hotel that also serves breakfast. It only had one person working it…. Imagine how long we had to wait specially when this is the only place that serves breakfast in the village.
They say that there are 4 EV chargers in the garage that is shared between Humbird and Selkirk. What they don’t tell you is that you can only use the one Testa Destination charger in the Selkirk side of the garage and you’re not allowed to plug in to the three that are on the Humbird side, just in case someone comes and wants to use those chargers.
There is a Charge Point Kiosk in the lot adjacent to both Selkirk and Humbird. Last year i used that charger, i spent $20 an hour for 5-7 miles of charge per hour. It’s a super slow charger.after 4 hours, I had 30 miles added to my range.
Chimney Rock is a restaurant at the hotel that I thought might have some potential. The menu is at best uninspired. The food was just ‘whatever’. You leave the restaurant looking for something delicious to eat.
Now the rooms: the rooms are just nasty. Think Days Inn meets a cheap ski lodge from the early 90s. The whole thing is nasty. I haven’t even told you about the beds. Lord have mercy! Some rooms are advertised as upgraded. What’s upgraded is the carpet, paint and the drapes. So watch out for that shenanigan. It I hope you don’t come with anything that requires charging, like heated gloves and or battery packs for heated socks and boot warmers. It’s nearly impossible to find one outlet in the room that already doesn’t have a bunch of gerrymandered cords hooked up to it. That whole situation is another disaster.
This hotel has so much potential!! Sooo much.
I wish it was a hotel that I could bring my fabulous and gorgeous wife to - but I think she’d take 4 steps into the lobby of the hotel and turn right around and leave the...
Read moreExtremely well-located in the cluster of buildings right near the lifts. Selkirk provides many room options, ski lockers & storage, a spa (for additional fees), lukewarm tub (not hot enough to be called that - and no jets) and luker-warm pool. The service at the front desk is impeccable -endlessly accommodating.
The rooms (we had 2Q) are ample in size, the bathroom works fine (ready hot water), and storage adequate (hangers don't work off the bar). A clothes bureau is much appreciated, and towels are plentiful. Bed is maybe a mite soft (my son's complaint but not mine), with lots of thick fluffy pillows. The 100% wool blanket kept me warm. The only complaint is the noise from the slope groomers, which start up in the middle of the night and can be heard in the rooms.
The coffee is a low-light. The Lodge provides packages of ground coffee, which are way too big for the tiny foam cups they supply. The bag of beans soak up half the cup of water (even if you squeeze the very hot trapped coffee out by hand). A lot of effort for not much coffee! I asked for a big mug (which they provided) and used 2 packages for stronger coffee. Usually ended up with 2/3 of a mug of coffee. But of course you can go outside and buy your cuppa...
The multiple restaurants are a highlight at this mountain location, esp since taking the bus to town is a bit of a hassle (you gotta take 2 buses which don't coordinate on their schedules, and the last bus back up the mountain at 5:30 pm means a taxi if you are in town for dinner). Unless you have your own ride, of course. The food on offer is really good, and won't break the bank. Pucci's bar is reputed to be crowded, but mid-week, it was pretty empty. Ditto for the Powderhound Pizza joint...
Read moreWe decided to splurge to stay at the Selkirk Lodge with the presumption that it would be a wonderful experience. Instead it was simply overpriced with no extras or any sort of special care. The room was nice, but no better than a typical Comfort Suites or several other chain hotels. We could clearly hear people in neighboring rooms and staff was vacuuming in a neighboring room at 11:30pm! I've never had that happen at a hotel after we've gone to bed. Super discourteous. The wi-fi went in and out and when there was connectivity it was extremely slow. Though advertised, there was no wet bar, just bottled water that would cost an extra $3/bottle. The hideaway bed for our daughter was falling apart - literally the springs were coming unhooked and only a child could sit or lie on it without it collapsing - even then, it sagged heavily under her slight weight. There were no free extras that you'd expect with a high-priced lodge - like breakfast included or special snacks/treats. Staff were mostly young college students and were sweet, but not adept at professional service. The restaurant downstairs (which I'm not sure who runs) was extremely heavy handed with salt and pepper and fresh produce was almost nil. Then, when we checked out, after having paid in full, the staff said that we also need to pay an extra $15 "resort fee". We were stunned and asked why - they said it was to pay for use of the pool, wi-fi access, and the old dvds you could borrow from the lobby. We paid a hefty fee for staying there and then we have to pay for spotty, slow wi-fi and use of the hotel pool! Take my advice - stay at a hotel in town or find a vacation rental through VRBO or Air BnB - you will get a much better deal and be...
