This property has potential to be really nice but there are lots of opportunities if they want to take it from just an ok campground with potential to the luxury resort they advertised it to be.
The good: property is conveniently located to both Savannah & Hilton Head (about 30mins) & is easy to access off the interstate. The bath house, fitness area & laundry seemed nice - although we didn’t use them. The dog park is fairly spacious & has a mix of turf & what was once sod. Has an area for small dogs & separate are for large dogs. The pool seemed ok - just walked past it so can’t speak to if it was heated or not.
Opportunities: The gate on the large dog Sally port fence is not properly leveled so it doesn’t latch properly They have a nice astroturf section which is great for cooler months but they need a sign saying it may be hot in the summer as it can & will burn paws. They need to have pet waste stations inside the fence, not just outside. Rules: we really try to respect the rules of campgrounds. But this property has a list of them that aren’t being followed. The most disturbing & potentially dangerous is the number of dogs we saw off leash. Many dogs don’t appreciate being approached off leash which creates a potentially dangerous situation- not to mention the traffic & a dog could be hit. Their “no rugs on grass” is unavoidable given the layout of the sites (see below). One class A had a large (10x16’) astroturf rug laid out with a large fence as if it is their home. No fences greater than 4x8 not realistic & not followed given nearly half or more of the sites had dogs.
WiFi: There is a $5 fee for the “upgraded” WiFi however when streaming TV it buffers about every 5-10 mins. Our last. Ight there it didn’t work at all. You also have to cast their DirectTV access from your phone or computer to your TV which makes no sense in the world of smart TVs.
Campsites: don’t have picnic tables or fire pits. Those are an extra charge. After the WiFi fee, it feels very much like nickel & diming. Just build it into the rate. The elevated firepits you can rent for $20 are pointless because the coals fall out of the bottom so they would be better off digging a fire pit ring like most places. Not to mention it leaves piles of ashes on the site from the person before. And no refund when there’s a burn ban in place. While they have tried to landscape nicely with bushes, there is little to no shade so for those not familiar with the low country of SC, be prepared to roast between April & September. The biggest reason we won’t come back are the layout of the sites. While they are decently spaced, the pads are not appropriately laid out. The 4x8 patio pads are awkwardly placed in the middle of the main pad so that unless you have a small camper & don’t need the full pad or a front living/door in a class A, your stairs lead out to the dirt/mud. There’s no sod & while they seem to have tried to seed, it’s all essentially dirt & mud if it rains. Our site had clumps of weeds/grass that hasn’t been touched with a weed eater & stood at least 4” tall. It’s impossible to follow their “no rugs” on the grass rule - even though there’s only sparse grass there. They would have been better off running the side patio pads all the way to the back of the main pad. There is a vast amount of poorly laid, broken & poorly patched concrete work & for a new “luxury” property, it seems like they definitely skimped on a very important aspect of the park &/or didn’t have a very competent concrete contractor.
Overall, we were disappointed based on the pictures & advertising. If you’re looking for a nice place & aren’t expecting luxury, then it’s a perfectly fine property. If you’re wanting a more high end experience that’s well thought out & laid out nicely with good sites & upkeep, go 20 mins up the road to...

We stayed in site 101 right next to a wifi tower and had fast reliable internet for our month long stay. Site 101 is a basic site with no picnic table or fire pit, but it is close to the pickleball courts and laundry/bathhouse. Gorgeous laundry facility with app based payment and all the machines worked well. We never used the bath house. Site 101 is also fairly close to the pool and clubhouse.
We took many walks around the park during our stay, and it is big enough to get some exercise and not have to make laps around the same parts over and over. So big that having a golf cart or e-bike to get around is a must for a long term stay just to get from point a to point b without wanting to take the time to walk. You can rent golf carts at the front office if you don't have your own.
Food trucks were on site for a few days a week, which was a nice option for dinner if we didn't want to cook. Other events like bingo, stand up comedy, Mardis Gras and St. Patrick's parades and games, as well as a dog adoption event with some local shelters was really special for us dog lovers for one day during our stay.
Savannah Lakes is one of the most dog friendly parks we have ever been to. They allow up to 3 dogs per campsite, where most other parks allow 2. There are plentiful dog waste stations throughout the park that always seemed to be stocked with bags. I never noticed any dog poop that was not picked up, likely due to the abundance and availability of bags and cans. There are essentially two dog parks right next to each other separated by a fence with toys and obstacles and a stick library 🤣. "Yappy Hour" is every Sunday at noon, weather permitting, where the staff drives around the park in a golf cart offering "pup cups" whipped cream in a little plastic cup to all the dogs that come out 😂. Very nice and fun perks for dogs.
Beautiful workout facility with equipment that works, play ground, Billiards, pool, hot tub, splash pad, shuffleboard, air hockey, foosball, bocce ball, horse shoes, board games, and TV at the clubhouse. Tall ceilings, fireplaces indoor and out and beautiful decor. Nice furniture too!
The ponds around the park have some small alligator residents, which were fun to see and not any problem for us. There are plenty of signs warning about the gators.
Group Pavilion with picnic tables, fire place and outdoor games like corn hole and ladder ball (blongo).
There is a narrow dirt road cut through the trees that is a good place to walk the dogs for some privacy, but otherwise this park is very open. Not very many trees, and no hedges or any separation from neighbors. Sites along the forest edge are the only ones that have any natural shade depending on the time of day, so make sure your air conditioner works well.
It is a new park so the sod and grass seed hasn't completely taken hold yet, so can get muddy when it rains. Good water pressure and power and sewer. The QR code based Direct TV for smart TVs that is provided never worked for us.
Great spot with equal drive times to beaches on Tybee Island and Hilton Head Island. Close to restaurants and stores. Easy to get Uber rides to Savannah. Be sure to visit the beautiful Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah for free and Sorry Charlies in down town Savannah for $1 oyster and $3 local beer happy hour...
Read moremy group and I had our family reunion here from the 29th of August till the 1st of September. We got there a little late from out drive after work for Labor Day weekend, we got there around 10 at night tired from trip, we got backed into lot 315 which was reserved for us for the weekend, I connected my camper to 50 amp power outlet so I would have power to drop landing gear, while I was putting landing gear down my kids were in camper to clean and vacuum from trip. when they plugged vacuum cleaner it started making funny sounds and started to smoke also the fans that were plugged up were humming and the entire camper started to get full of smoke so I ran and unplugged it from power supply pole. Everything that was plugged in and came on when camper was connected to sure power got destroyed. including microwave, refrigerator, hot water, fans, ceiling fans, and surprisingly ac was unharmed even though it was also making noises but still works. I contacted front desk or people on call. while waiting on them I got my multimeter since I'm master tech and carry one with me and checked the legs on 50 amp plug on pole and found on leg had left leg had 120 and right leg had 240 which is way wrong, and was the reason for the damages to my camper. legs are supposed to be 120 on right and 120 on left. when the arrived to sight the told me why didn't I have the protector connected first and I was thinking to my self why should I need one this is a brand new place and it was late. why would someone from this business tell me to use one. the staff got me move to site 317 and I made sure to check the 50 amp connector and was good so I connected to it and was able to run ac. The next morning they finally came by to file a report for damages to camper took pictures off all appliances that were damaged including fridge, microwave, and water heater, that what I was worried about mostly, and told me that they would send it up so I can get compensated for damages or send me somewhere to have camper fixed. we left on the first of September and I gave them a week to contact me to see what they were going to do to make it right and fix my camper, and heard nothing I contacted them and they finally told me they were waiting on inspection of pole to see what was wrong since it was just installed not to long ago. so I gave them more time and have been calling them every week with no results. still they have to made it right. I have been with out microwave, refrigerator and hot water for a month since I m writing this on September 30th, and I even called them today and was told management was in a meeting and they would call me back and never did. this place was a nice place to stay my family really enjoyed themselves but my experience when it came to them making things right with me not good so far. if the site damaged 5k work of appliances try to make it right...
