In the snow it was all pretty magical and a great place to build experiences as a family. If you go to Camp Richardson for the rooms you're missing the point of being there. That said, although the rooms are pretty basic they are decently appointed and beds were warm and comfortable. Folks who work there are friendly and helpful, and I appreciate their down to earth, "We work at a 1920s resort in a national forest, cool!" attitude. The Lodge has a decently sized lobby lounge that is comfortable and feels like something you'd find at a smaller but historic national park. Although the Lodge is pretty close to the two-lane highway, it was quiet and the road was not a feature of being there. There are lovely cabins scattered through the forest, a general store with winter clothes & camp swag (replacement gloves at reasonable cost, yay), and friendly staff and a kitchen where we ate breakfast (choc chip pancakes, egg & sausage muffin, breakfast burrito, coffee, etc). Camp also has a good bar and restaurant at the beach about 100 feet from the lake shore (sunset at the lake!) and in the summer there is a marina facility with beach/boat rentals. Across the highway is a place to rent stuff like snowshoes, and there are trails to explore. (Visited during winter, so summer activities were not available)

We had already gotten an Airbnb in Placerville but drove to Lake Tahoe and went through Camp Richardson and because we saw all the activities...bike riding, ice cream parlor, cafe/shop, tents. Rvs, beach area by Beacons, live music, kayaking, paddle boards, jet ski rentals, etc. We decided we had to stay there so we took a chance on Camp Richardson Hotel to stay 1 night and it was sooo Worth it. We were lucky they had a couple of rooms available. Camp Richardson is the place to be. We had an incredible time. The room was a typical cabin feel..older hotel but it had charm and we were just greatful to find a reasonably priced room on short notice. It was a $190 with tax for a queen size bed. We're from Texas so the No a/c thing was a little hard to get used to and even though it got down to 45, the breeze wasn't coming in, for some reason, even with the windows open and the road noise was a little loud in the middle of the night but other than that we really enjoyed it. We will be back, for sure, and we highly recommend.

Came to Camp Richardson for a fun winter vacation in early January 2025. We stayed in their hotel, which is within walking distance of the beach(which is within the property). Location overall is just a few minutes from town, which was convenient. While we were there we got hit with a winter storm, since the room access is from indoors (from within the hotel itself), it was nice not to track in snow with our shoes when we came back from our ventures. There's free parking on the property for guests, when you check in they give you a parking pass for your vehicle. The room we stayed in was a cute 1 bed 1 bath (bonus points for having a full length mirror by the bathroom). It was perfect for us since we were mainly exploring and out in town for the majority of our stay. Would definitely be back.

I would support a different business with your money. Had a terrible experience with a concierge named Colin that wanted to create a lot of drama instead of accepting they were in the wrong and helping to fix the issue.

Here’s a quick rundown of our experience : Check in here is at 3pm. We got to our room for check in at 4:30pm. We went into the room to realize the bathroom was covered in sand. So I went out to let the concierge know. His name was Colin. He said that he was sorry that the room wasn’t clean but the house keeping team had already left for the day. He offered to give us a refund and I said sure please process the refund.

He then told us that the refund was not in his hands as we made the reservation through Expedia. I asked if there were any other rooms that were ready and requested if we could be moved there. He said none of the rooms were empty. I told him ok can you at least try to send someone over to clean the room. He then said he found someone and would send them in the next 10 mins. I went back to the room and waited. During that time I noticed even the floors of the room were dirty. There were hairballs and trash on the floor.

At this point I realized that the room wasn’t totally ready and went out to let him know. I was met with another concierge. I let him know that the room was not ready. I returned the keys to that room. I told him we had been on the road for a while and would love to get a room that’s clean and ready for checkin.

So he (2nd concierge) apologized and gave us the keys to another room. We left the old room and saw a cleaning crew show up as we were about to leave. We then went into the new room and were just about to get settled in when we heard someone bang on our front door aggressively. I opened the door and it was Colin, clearly mad that his colleague had revealed his initial lies and given us a room.

Colin at this point was upset and started shouting at us to vacate the room and go back to the old room he initially checked us into. I told him no we are not cause that room needs to be cleaned. The cleaning crew is there and we wanted to be checked into a room that was ready. It was beyond the checkin time of 3pm, we were tired and just want to settle down and get some rest. We were done moving around and being asked to wait. He wasn’t really in the mental place to listen to anything I was saying and just kept cutting me short, shouting back and basically started twisting all the facts.

He said that I lied about the room being unclean and that it was clean already. He even lied that he inspected the room with me (which never happened). He kept shouting that this is not our room and that we should leave and go back to the first. He was not ready to listen to anything we said or even make eye contact while he spoke. He Then stormed away, still shouting and asking us leave and go back to the old room. He even lied that he was the manager when I asked to speak to his manager.

I tried to go down and reason with him but he kept insisting that we were rude customers and that he had gone out of his way to accommodate us. It was basically a one sided conversation where he kept lying about all the facts and then started saying that the room was always clean to begin with. When he himself sent for the cleaning crew.

At this point I had had enough of this guy and the way he was shouting at us. Instead of talking to the customer he was complaining to his manager and trying to cover his mess up.

Colin’s behavior hade us feel attacked and threatened. We did not feel safe to stay on that property anymore. I politely asked the second concierge to issue us a refund. Told him we don’t feel safe to checking in and stay with them. Then left.

I would not stay in a place like this where some amateur does not have the basic courtesy and manners to deal...

We checked into the charming Lodge after a long day of travel. The front desk staff was responsive and helpful throughout, especially Richard. The room was a corner room, spacious and rustic with a comfortable King bed and ample drawer space. The bathroom had a shower and could have used some storage space like a shelf or cupboard. We noted a strange odor in our walk in closet (room 209) which I thought was cat pee. I asked the front desk to address the problem and they sent up a spray from housekeeping and then promised to shampoo the carpet the next day. The spray seemed to do the trick by the next day and I was able to hang out clothes in the closet. Unfortunately, the smell came back again and again and I had to keep asking for the spray over the next few days. The carpet shampoo never happened. I began to have some allergy symptoms almost as soon as we checked in. I assumed it must be pollen or some other problem but when my symptoms got worse by the third day, I needed a doctor and antibiotics for an allergic sinusitis. The doctor noted that there was no pollen to speak of in the area just then and suggested we look for mold in the room. My husband did a thorough search and saw mold in the ceiling of the shower. I guess I had never looked up and was oblivious. We took pictures which we had to submit to our booking service to move to another hotel without penalty. |I had many fond memories of Camp Richardson as a child. We had always camped and never stayed in the Lodge or cabins. I would not recommend the accommodations as they stand now. The manager was nice bout not charging us for the remainder of the stay but argued that the mold was just “dark paint” in the shower which I found very odd. He said that they were addressing the problem and has not rented out the room again. My sister who was staying in the two rooms next to us with her kids said that the room was re-occupied the day we moved out. Why lie about it? And if it was not mold, why not rent it out the same day? It does Not ring true. Anyway, I gave two stars because the lodge public areas were clean, comfortable, and inviting. We spent hours down there playing cards, reading, and visiting. The charming little General Store across the way served a great breakfast and had...

I am not the type of person that would want to write a terrible review about a business as I know that there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes that can be difficult to navigate these days, however this situation has gone on for far too long!

I booked a family reunion with Mary Griffin (group manager) well over a year before the reunion. She was always very difficult to get in touch with either by phone or email. I was very patient with her the entire year as I wanted this to be a positive experience for the 80 people I had booked. I did my best not to get frustrated with the lack of response as she was always helpful when I finally did get in touch with her however this is where this took a turn. My daughter had to cancel 5 days before the reunion due to her daughter being taken to the ER and at the time she cancelled she was told that she would only be penalized the deposit. However, she was charged the entire 3 day stay. I was told per the 18 page contract that she would be charged "per the contract" which is understandable EXCEPT I had another family member that had to cancel just a few days before and was only charged for the deposit because the front desk person made a mistake. Not my fault or my problem. I contacted Mary to see if there could be an exemption made and she stated she could possibly get a one night refund which I was not ok with but it would be better than nothing. She stated that she would be getting back with me in few day which she DID NOT. I emailed her twice and yet NO RESPONSE again. I finally called the general manager Adam Fountain and explained the situation to him. He stated that Mary would MAKE IT RIGHT and would get back to me the following day which she DID NOT! Again, I had to reach out to them and spoke with Mary who is unwilling to refund my daughter for her stay because she just decided not to and for no other reason. Finally, I was told that Adam would return my call today and of course no phone call I left him a straight forward message that I would like for him to call me at the end of business day but NO!! Please do not give this place your business as they are TERRIBLE to deal with or get any respect as...
