Wow! We found this place searching for family hiking spots around Lake Tahoe… the reviews there hinted at a hidden gem and boy do we agree!!! On a Monday the historic tours were unavailable but we were still able to walk around and read informative signs and admire the architecture. What a dreamy place anyone ever got to call home! Wow. We most enjoyed our walk to the visitor center and around Rainbow Boardwalk trail (be very bear aware - signs post advising not to bring ANY food whatsoever) which takes you through marshland of Taylor creek - it’s accessible and beautiful too. Aspens galore! Beaver dams. We continued onto Kiva Beach which was breathtaking and fun for kids and dogs alike. Dogs are not allowed on the rainbow trail but are allowed on Kiva beach. From the beach we followed the trail back to Tallac historic sites and it was beautiful the whole while. All ages can enjoy this spot and we highly recommend! Parking was very easy on a Monday in June and I imagine it never gets impossible to park with 2 large lots available and it not making many highlight lists … of which I disagree! We did this midday and then headed north to inspiration point and Sugar Pine Point State Park for...

And also if it is not sunny and make sure you bring a very warm jacket and a beanie because it does get quite cold I had to park the car away at the gate because the road was closed due to the snow. It was I think a little over a...
