I'll start off by saying I had been looking forward to this weekend in the mountains for weeks. I was excited to stay in a quaint room up in the mountains will a beautiful view. We arrived early and thank God we did bc the system messed up our reservation and booked us for the next weekend instead of the one we actually chose. We even had the email registration verifying the correct weekend and room. The owner did even seem to be sorry or even take responsibility and honestly didnt even seem to care we had driven so far to stay at his place. Instead of a beautiful balcony mountainside view, we got stuck on a ground floor unit with a lackluster view of weeds and trees. We also didnt get much of that fresh mountain air as it was stifling hot in our room bc we couldnt feel the breeze and most of the windows barely opened. To say I was disappointed was a huge understatement. I felt like it was a huge waste of time and money coming here. If I wanted to look at weeds and trees I wouldn't have driven 2.5 hours. I would have stayed home and looked at my neighbors yard. The floors are also so unlevel that just walking across the room made me so dizzy and nauseated so I didn't even feel like I could walk about freely. So if you are prone to equilibrium issues like I am then don't stay here. Its like a stinking fun house in the office the floors are so slanted. The water was brown and looked gross. The ceiling fan spit out small pieces of black plastic onto the bed. The room smelles like mildew and the bed was so damp when we finally did go to bed that we couldn't fall asleep for a long time bc it was so uncomfortable and then the jerks above us started stomping around at 615a which woke us up super early so we barely got any sleep. I'm sure whoever got our original room had a blast. Unfortunately for us, it was a...

This is an update to my original review below.

I came here two years ago and have been looking for a reason to come back. Yes, this building is old and the main building has some skewed angles. Yes, the walls are a little thin. That doesn't really bother me; the owners are renovating rooms, the older rooms are still really pleasant, especially with private balconies, and the main building is cozy. I enjoyed an amazing night sky, an incredible sunrise, and badly needed peace and quiet.

Until breakfast. Unfortunately, I had to witness a very intense (one-sided) confrontation between the gentlemen operating the inn while eating breakfast a screen door away. I want to respect the latter gentleman and not repeat what I heard, but there were pretty intense threats of physical violence.

I can selfishly say that this destroyed the well-being I was seeking by staying here, but honestly, I'm mostly hoping things didn't escalate after I left, as I booked it pretty quick. The man on the receiving end of this insisted things were fine, and I hope that's true. But I thought about it for most of my drive home.

It seems like a lot of guests have had positive experiences with the staff. But it also sounds like I am not the only person has seen or heard something like this here.

You should probably stay away.

I booked a room here after spending a few days with family in Tennessee. I hoped it'd be the perfect place for some quiet, good views, and amazing roads. I was right — my balcony view was spectacular, Little Switzerland is beautiful, and Alpine Inn is flanked by some incredible roads. Thanks to Susan and Ron for their hospitality, great breakfast, and recommendations on the best...

I had a fantastic 2 nights at the Alpine inn, breaking up a business trip from Australia. The views, even from the rooms, are superb ! We had a thunderstorm roll through in the evening so got a free sound and light show. I was after something with a personality, a little rustic and friendly to enjoy the mountains. As a solo traveller the communal fire pit with the views was a perfect spot to meet some fellow travellers and share stories over a drink. I was fortunate to have the company of people somewhat local who took the time to give me tips on where to go hike in the local area. The owners Steve and Carter were great fun, very welcoming and up for a chat and a laugh. The burgers hit the spot after a day hiking around. alpine breakfast was huge and delicious. I was in room 4. Views as per photo. Just lovely. Room was smallish, bathroom newly renovated but it’s small, the bed was very comfortable. Slept with the windows open, perfect sleeping temps in the height of summer even. Best sleep I’d had all trip. I really didn’t want to leave. If you like luxury, this isn’t for you. If you want to experience amazing views, great people and enjoy nature and fall asleep hearing nothing but the cicadas - I highly recommend it.

We decided to stay at this inn for just a night on our way down the blue ridge. I think some inns required a couple or more days of stays, but not this one. It sounded nice, quiet, rustic, and full of personality! When reserving our room we put the estimated arrival time at 7pm, but due to the weather we cut our travel short and arrived at 3:30pm and our room was ready. Steve was there to check us in, show us around, and to our room. There are two goats and a dog here. The place is very decorated and has communal spaces. The parking spots are a bit small, but it was fine for us. we stayed in room 8, the middle room on the top floor. We had neighbors on either side of us. The walls are thin so you can definitely hear the neighbors, but it seems like we happened to fall asleep and wake up at the same time so it wasn’t bad. The room is small, but it’s enough space for a night of stay. The room and linen were clean! The balcony had a nice view of the goats, stars at night, and a sunrise in the morning. Breakfast was cooked by Steve! It was fun sitting out on the balcony to eat. The service was good from both Steve and his assistant. Not once did we feel uncomfortable here!

Spent the night here on our 2-day motorcycle ride along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Loved this little mountain gem - from the rustic room w/breathtaking views - to the best pancakes we’ve ever had! Both owners were there on our arrival - Carlton is the friendly, outgoing greeter while Steve is the quiet, sweet front desk & cook. Had a great supper and spent our dessert chatting with the two while enjoying local ice cream and taste sampling Steve’s fried Plantains ( which make a great ice cream sandwich! - who knew!!). Sunset was lovely, but the sunrise from our balcony actually got my husband out of bed at 6:00 am to enjoy w/me!! Can’t wait to return in October for the fall foliage and Steve’s breakfast! Thanks for the great stay, good food, fun conversation and emergency boot repair (I’m still wearing my boot so your glue did the trick!!). Lending me sneakers to wear while my boot glued sole was drying was above & beyond Carlton!! Steve - Joe is already talking about a pile of pancakes overlooking the fall foliage and I can’t wait to hear what other recipes you’ve created for our October stay. Thanks to you both - Gloria&Joe
