I really wanted to give a much higher overall rating to Hyatt Place. I was really impressed with the majority of my stay there, but the most crucial part of it was so lacking that it impacted my overall stay.
The location on Kent Island is premium, especially if you're on the water view sided of the hotel. It's also next to 2 very popular restaurants and a very short distance from several more. When I first walked into the lobby, I was impressed by how pristine everything looked. The hotel is fairly new by industry standards, and they appear to be keeping it up quite nicely. The desk staff was very friendly and professional and provided good information. The hotel bar was nice and seemed to offer a pleasant atmosphere. Throughout the hotel on the way to the room, I was impressed with the cleanliness of the establishment. Once in the room, my appreciation continued. It was one of the cleanest hotels I've ever been in. The room was immaculate and nicely decorated. The balcony and water view was an added plus. I was a bit disappointed that there was a refrigerator and a safe available but no microwave, but overall, the room was very nice. I prepared for a comfortable stay and was well pleased until it was time to go to sleep.
The mattress on the bed was just about the worst I've ever seen in a hotel. The linens were fresh and crisp, but the mattress was deplorable. It had a very noticeable vertical hump down the middle of the king-sized bed, which gave the impression that it was two full sized mattresses pushed together instead of a king-sized mattress. On either side of the hump the mattress sunk in when you sat or laid on it. One side sunk lower than the other and sunk so low that it almost felt as though I were laying on the box spring. It was so uncomfortable that it caused my back to ache, and eventually, I rolled over onto the hump, which actually was the best spot on the mattress. After a while on the hump, my back began to hurt again, and since I didn't want to sink down again, I moved to the couch and finally got some support and a bit of sleep. I was extremely disappointed because I didn't pay to sleep on the couch.
Overall, the hotel had a nice, quiet and relaxed atmosphere. I would stay there again if I could have a better sleep experience. My back hurt throughout the...
Read moreChecking in was probably the “worst” part of my experience. I smiled and gave my name and ID. There were 2 men at the counter: an older, short, friendly, but nervous(?) gentleman, and a young, tall, cold, man. The older one smiled and tried to check me in, but the younger one interrupted and while checking me in, thanked me for being a member with no smile, walked off, then I realized it was to get me some water, and came back with no smile or warmth at all.
It was fine…it was NYE and I was tired.
The room was nice. I read reviews before deciding on a hotel and saw unfavorable reviews of my usual favorite Hilton Garden Inn nearby. This Hyatt was said to be newer and I’m glad I chose it! The beds were comfortable and I got the extra pillows I requested. The furniture and room layout were both pleasant and appealing. The views on the water side were worth the extra cost!!! So beautiful morning AND evening!
The breakfast was basic. Powder eggs? Sausage was good, pancakes were dry (I was looking for a waffle machine 🧐) I made toast but was disappointed in the jelly options. I will say they had cute extras like tortillas to make breakfast tacos and berry compote and crumbled granola to put in yogurt. I skipped breakfast the 2nd day and ate yogurt I bought.
I ordered door dash for lunch the next day because the food in the lobby bar either wasn’t appealing or seemed overpriced.
I worked out before I checked out and enjoyed all machines and weights offered.
I can’t say enough great things about Charlene during my checkout! She was very genuine and personable! I tried not to get upset while I waited for her to checkout another guest in front of me. (She gave quick and helpful suggestions on their days journey to st Michaels) But she showed me the same genuineness, warmth and kindness. Some people have to work hard to show hospitality in the service industry, and others exhibit it naturally. The latter describes...
Read moreThis is a fairly new hotel in a prime location. The hubs and I decided to stay here to celebrate our 23rd anniversary. We had high hopes because we love visiting Kent Island for staycations on the Chesapeake Bay. I was disappointed to discover a used razor left in the shower after checking into our room.. I notified the front desk and asked for the shower to be cleaned. Me and the hubs stepped out to grab Chic Filet, which is a 10-minute drive from the hotel. When we got back, the razor was gone, but the shower was bone dry, so I suspected they may not have cleaned it, plus we weren't gone that long for the shower to dry that fast. Anyway, fast forward to the next morning, I get in the shower, and soon as I turn the water on, the hairs, not mine, by the way, start trickling down the shower wall. I have extreme OCD so this creeped me out to the 1000th power. I hopped out of that shower so fast it was crazy.. I called down to the front desk and complained again about the bathroom shower not being cleaned. Then, two hours later, I asked to escalate to the manager because still no one had come to clean my room yet. I checked back another two hours later again, and finally, I ran into one of the managers, Mike, in the hallway. He had on a badge and was dressed like a manager, so once he confirmed he was in fact one of the managers, he sent someone up to clean the room and he removed the charges for one night. He was very apologetic about the situation. I'm happy that he did that. I was just a little disappointed that I had to keep escalating, and it took me running into the manager in the hallway to finally get a resolution. I'm not saying I wouldn't stay here again. I just hope the bathroom shower is cleaned well if I...
