Funny how one bad aspect can taint an entire dining experience. Stopped in for a nice lunch with my daughter. Walked in and waited to be seated, and a woman (later found out she was the manager) barely looked up from a computer to tell us someone would be with us in a minute. She proceeded to yell several names in the direction of a room behind her. When no one answered, she yelled, "Who is back there?" A kid came out and was told to go find someone else. Shortly after, a server came running and apologizing. The manager never moved or spoke to us again.
Our server Bobby was great and made some nice food suggestions. I ordered the Halibut tacos, which had a GF symbol next to them on the menu for $18 and were described as coming on flour or corn tortillas. The halibut was delicious, but the corn tortillas were cold and right out of a bag, so I ate the filling with a fork. No big deal, everything else was quite good.
When the check arrived, I noticed that the tacos were $21. The server checked his handheld computer and noted that there was an upcharge for the gluten-free tortillas. Knowing that corn tortillas are naturally gluten-free and not more expensive, I pointed out that no upcharge was listed on the menu and asked that it be removed. He returned from talking with the manager to inform me that she would not remove the charge because the menu only says that the tacos can be made gluten-free, not that they are gluten-free.
At the end of the day, the extra $3 did not kill me, but a restaurant with such a beautiful view and really good food and servers should have a manager who cares more about the guests experience than to argue about the semantics on the menu. But if she cared, she would have greeted us at the door and sat us promptly rather than yelling for others to...
Read moreDisappointed by how my disabled mom was treated.
My parents went to this restaurant for the first time with some friends and were really enjoying themselves at first. The food was good, the atmosphere was nice, and everything seemed to be going great.
My mom has a licensed service dog who helps her with everyday tasks due to her disability. He’s not just a pet — he’s highly trained and legally allowed to accompany her in public spaces.
They were seated on the patio, had ordered and eaten most of their meal without issue, when suddenly a staff member came over toward the end and said service dogs weren’t allowed outside. My parents were confused and explained that under the law, service dogs are permitted anywhere the public is allowed, including patios.
Then the manager came out and repeated that it was their policy to only allow service dogs inside, not outside. Even after my parents explained that this goes against the Americans with Disabilities Act, they were told that staff are required to enforce this rule and SIGNED PAPERS that they will enforce this rule by the owner of the restaurant. What made it feel even worse is that they waited until the meal was basically over and the bill was coming. It felt like they didn’t want to “deal with it” until they knew the table had already paid. Businesses can receive MAJOR fines for going against Americans with Disabilities Act and denying service.
It was frustrating and honestly pretty embarrassing for my mom to be put in that position. This was supposed to be a fun dinner with friends in Maryland, but it ended on a really sour note.
If you or someone you love relies on a service animal, I’d be cautious about coming here. The sign may say service dogs are welcome, but that’s not how my mom...
Read moreThe door has a sign saying service dogs are welcome. they are not! we took friends to dinner at the dockhouse. we have enjoyed the restaurant over the last couple years. we asked to sit outside and were seated there. Our friend has is physically disabled. she has braces on her legs and hands and uses a walker for mobility. she has a certified service dog from United Disablity Services. He had extensive training for two years. He assists my friend with tasks like retrieving things she drops and opening doors. He basically is her hands. we were enjoying a lovely evening and good food when we were approached by an employee telling us we couldn’t have a service dog on their patio. they have a rule that service dogs are only to be inside. We explained to her that is against the law, that service dogs are allowed everywhere but operating rooms to accompany their owner. she then sent her manager out and she again reinforced what their rule was with service dogs. we again told her this rule is against the law and the restaurant could be sued and fined. why were approached when we were almost done is ridiculous. The manager said the owner had everyone sign a paper saying they would enforce this rule. I don’t know what their problem is. Other diners expressed their disbelief over how we were treated. We won’t be back! If you are a dog lover I would encourage a you to avoid this...
