I've stayed here several times before, but last night was a big disappointment. Always before, I was in a room on the south side, but last night was given a room on the north side. Big difference, and not in a good way. The bathroom was wet -- very wet -- from a leaky shower which splashed water all over the floor. If you want to stay in this room, bring your own mop. The toilet seat was loose -- very loose. The toilet itself was the kind you'd have for a midget, or a child, or in a small RV. If you're over 120 pounds, forget being able to sit on it and have stuff go where it's supposed to. The carpet was dirty. The edges of the carper had, apparently, years of dirt, dust, junk, and who knows what built up, especially noticeable while seated on the toilet. Has nobody there ever heard of a vacuum cleaner wand for cleaning in corners or edges? Could somebody possible try cleaning under the bed? The walls were splattered with God only knows what. The refrigerator was not level, and it wobbled, as did the microwave sitting atop it. The door had no security peephole. The door security latch was broken and hanging by one screw. The shampoo containers were not plastic bottles; they were tear-open envelopes which were impossible to open when wet (like in a shower -- duh) unless you have a knife or scissors handy. The shampoo they contained was barely enough to soap a chihuahua. THE PRICES HAVE GONE UP. Instead of $45 or $50, it was $61 plus another $10 for the dog. If you don';t mind driving to Mattoon, a Motel 6 is $44 a night with no charge for the dog. The TV worked. The bed was okay. It is convenient if you have business in Sullivan; it's all there is in town. But this room was not worth the price by any stretch. I may need to change where I stay in the future, and just...
Read moreWorse than poor. Go somewhere else. We had stayed here several times and had never had anything but good to say about this place. But I recently posted a review that we were very unhappy with our visit this time. I need to change that review. The people who own the motel made our visit right. We had been put in a different room than what they had reserved for us. So this evening they had been watching for us to return to our room. They came after us down the walk. They said that room is not right for you. We had a nicer room for you. So if you want to move we will help you. We said that we were very unhappy with the room we had and we would like to move to a different one. So not many motels can say that they are familiar with their patrons to watch for their vehicle to return to make things right. Thank you for caring. Owners of Gateway Inn in Sullivan Illinois. We...
Read moreThe room and the services here are wonderful. My room was clean and had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. The location is also great—just a short walk to a family restaurant with delicious food, as well as other nearby stores. If you enjoy walking, it’s a convenient and pleasant area to explore. What I appreciated most, though, was the peaceful atmosphere of the place. I stayed here for almost a month, and during that time, what truly made the experience special was the owner and his family. They were incredibly kind and helpful, and their warmth left a lasting impression on me. More than the room or the services, it was their genuine hospitality that made this one of the best experiences I’ve...
