We came to Taneytown to visit friends and it was recommended that we visit Georges on York. Right from the very start Chris and Sharon were very attentive, with emails and phone calls to make sure of our rooms, check in time, and breakfast requests, which was very much appreciated. We brought my girlfriends 16 year old son with us and he was quite comfortable in the Parson’s room – a very cool place for a young person stay, he was made very welcome and he had a great time as well.
When we arrived they gave us a tour and explained the nature of all the rooms and how it related to the local history of the area, it was very interesting. The place is just fantastic with many period pieces of furniture, artwork, décor, beautiful antiques and furnishings, just lovely and relaxing. We were immediately comfortable and felt right at home, I don’t think we had even settled into our rooms when we had decided that we would be coming back – and more than once.
The rooms are really nicely decorated ad fitted out with everything you could need. They are all individually decorated with their own theme and we can’t wait to visit them all. The bathrooms are exquisitely made over, completely 5 star first rate – lovely and functional. The B&B was recently updated so there is a mix of the beautiful, classic old style with all the modern conveniences, it is so well done that the modernization is hardly noticeable at all, it is seamless.
Before we set out for the evening we headed downstairs to the smell of fresh baked cookies – that were conveniently sitting in the common area, it’s the touches like this that really put a place over the top. Chris always had a bowl of fresh veggies on the table fresh from their garden, for a quick bite – their heirloom tomatoes were simply divine!
Outside is lovely with gardens, a covered pergola with comfy patio furniture, complete with torches and candles makes for a very comfortable and romantic night-time hang out. There is a fire pit as well – we are imagining the next time we stay will be for a few days and we will put that to good use one night!
The food was outstanding, tasty juice and coffee – with a selection of fresh fruits and melons, followed by some eggs on a bed of zucchini hash and Chris’s own smoked bacon that we watched him work on earlier – simply delicious. There were fresh peaches wrapped in pastry for something sweet that just capped off a wonderful breakfast and a delightful stay.
Honestly we didn’t know what to expect, we were visiting a new place for a short while and needed some convenient accommodations, what we found was a wonderful surprise, just a beautiful B&B run by 2 really special people. This was an occasion the 3 of us will never forget, simply just completely blew all of our expectations away, we will be returning to this lovely inn, hopefully,...
Read moreSometimes there simply aren’t enough stars for a review. George’s on York Bed and Breakfast is worthy of 10 stars. This is a world class Bed and Breakfast. Sharon and Chris pour their hearts and minds into their guests’ experience. Meals are expertly crafted and thoughtfully presented, photo worthy and mouth watering-ly delicious. This mornings breakfast preparations began last night and delightful aromas filled the home with splendor and anticipation. The baked French toast was a first for me and had a crusty top, blueberries and a custardy scrumptiousness that blew my mind. The eggs (local organic of course) we paired with home grown veggies and the coffee and cinnamon cream to pair were simply spot on. It was a brunch fit for a King and the feast was made complete with smoked lamb sausage and goat cheese. An exquisite fruit plate accompanied this meal and of course fresh orange juice. Dining with other guests was warm and sweet and they were equally enthused by the high quality preparations and delicious food.
The Old Baumgardner home is simply massive and while built in 1840, it is a super structure that has been expertly cared for and preserved for generations to come and enjoy.
Influences from across the country adorn the home pairing comfort with luxurious design made complete with the wares of local artists presentations of painting and photography (many pieces for available for sale). This historical part Taneytown Maryland is rich in storied history and is best enjoyed in the comfort provided thanks to the efforts that only design gurus and extraordinarily friendly hosts could achieve. While my stay was booked last second when other accommodations fell thru, I’m certain I hit the lottery of Bed and Breakfast experiences. I am leaving here with recipes as well as design ideas that are brand new to me. If you are visiting Gettysburg, stay here. If you need a weekend getaway with your spouse? Stay here. What a wonderful place to be and it is worthy of the endless 5-star ratings George’s on York has earned (10...
Read moreGeorges on York was a highlight of our weekend.
We spent two night at Georges on York in order to attend a wedding in Taneytown.
Georges on York is a lovingly restored home, originally built in 1848 & expanded in 1878 & completely upgraded after Sharon & Christ Tillman bought this beautiful home in 2017.
It boasts five historically preserved guest rooms with the modern comfort of on suite baths in each.
The two living rooms & dining room on the first floor provide excellent meeting or just relaxing spaces. And assorted containers of chocolate, candies & homemade cookies provide snacks.
Since it was a winter wedding, we had Georges to ourselves & the added pleasure of getting acquainted with our hosts, Sharon & Chris Tillman. We learned the history of the house & something of the work it took to transform this handsome dwelling into its current occupation as a bed & breakfast. It’s a step back in time, with the modern comfort of private baths, free Wi-Fi, flat TV in our room & in one of the living rooms, as well as free parking behind the house.
One happy surprise was the delicious breakfasts Sharon & Chris prepared for us. These two could easily have a tv cooking show. The first morning, Chris prepared a scrumptious bread pudding as an appetizer before breakfast, with crispy, grilled bananas on top. Breakfast the first morning consisted of fruit over yogurt with granola, omelets filled with onions, roasted peppers & cheddar cheese accompanied by homemade toasted breads & assorted garnishes. The next morning, we were treated to glazed, roasted apples in a baked crust before breakfast. Then we were greeted with eggs benedict cooked to perfection with homemade hollandaise sauce, thinly sliced grilled ham & more homemade toast. There was a new yogurt with different fruit & toppings just to keep us guessing.
Overall our hosts were delightful, the food delicious & wholesome & the rooms beautiful & comfortable.
