I rarely write bad reviews but our experience with this place was so disappointing that I want to share it so that others can save their money and avoid the headache we experienced.
My husband and I have been staying in places across the Catskills and Hudson Valley for 6 years and have stayed in many different towns and accommodations, to our absolute delight. We love trying new places and were so excited to stay at the new and buzzy Camptown Lodge. However as soon as we arrived it became clear that this was not what we had signed up for.
Below are the photos of the cabin we had booked, from the Cabin page of their website, compared to photos of the cabin we stayed in. Key differences were: Small space (large space was advertised) Stained furniture inside and outside that looked thrifted (this place is only ~2 years old, advertised as custom made and chosen by designers) Scratched walls made of drywall (no wood paneling on walls as advertised) A clogged sink and a bad smell upon arrival (likely due to old pipes) A broken screen door upon arrival Dust covered AC/heating unit (the kind that's been there for decades) No dimmers as advertised No wool blankets as advertised
When we raised concerns to management the morning after a late night check in, we were told this was the room we booked, "all cabins are different and no two are alike" and it was not possible to move us to another cabin, even though we were staying for 5 nights and arrived before a holiday weekend when they would be fully booked. No apology was offered, we were told the cabin was at the quality standard advertised on their website and nothing that could be done.
When we showed them photos from their website, the front desk said that those photos, intended to be representative of all cabins, were actually for their large 2-bedroom cabin with a kitchenette. Importantly, during the booking process, the same exact photos (minus the ones of the kitchenette) are displayed for the Standard Cabin which we had booked. For comparison, this would be like a hotel displaying a stunning king size 2-bedroom suite as being representative of all rooms and then getting a small queen room that is in a damaged, dirty condition.
Also, be aware that the property sits next to a busy highway so there is car noise day and night (it was previously a motor lodge). For folks with EVs, be aware that the property charges a hefty charging fee when most places provide this for free in the Hudson Valley/Catskills.
This was not the level of professionalism, quality or amenities we were led to believe we would be getting for $375/night. As a result, we cut our stay short and thankfully got reimbursed the difference for the remainder of our stay. You can judge for yourself, but at this price point you can find many beautiful, high quality and cozy places to stay...
Read moreI had the great pleasure of staying at Camptown Hotel a couple of weeks ago and I must say it was the perfect reprieve after spending a week in New York City on business. Compared to the typical LA traffic I endure, the drive from the city to Leeds on a Friday morning was a breeze. We arrived at Camptown a little after lunch time but were accommodated with an early check in without any issue and greeted with a warm welcome by the staff at the front desk. Upon arrival we were given a tour of the grounds and even toured a couple of the different room options available before we decided on the winner. The rooms were cozy with spacious bathrooms and bedding reviled the four seasons. (I next must find out where it's from so I can purchase some for my home!).
The front desk staff, in particular Joey, was incredibly gracious in coordinating dinner, brunch reservations, and even transportation (in an area where Uber is scarce) so we could check out the night life in neighboring Hudson. My friend and I had quite possible the best Margaritas of our lives made by the personable bartender, Juan Carlos and we enjoyed 2 phenomenal meals - a dinner and brunch at Casa Susana.
If you are looking for a little R&R and escape from the city, I highly recommend Camptown. The service and vibe of the property felt high end but not preconscious and I look forward to when business brings me back out east this summer so I can check out their new pool & summertime...
Read moreMy wife and I just spent our anniversary weekend at Camptown, and I honestly rushed to my computer this morning to write this review. Camptown is an absolute gem. We stayed in one of the standard cabins with a fireplace, and we absolutely loved our time there. The cabins are incredibly clean, and the owners really have thought of every possible detail. It is a spectacularly well run and well designed property. I also want to offer a massive shout out to Alex and Henry at the front desk. We had a small issue that was totally out of the hotel's hands that caused us to temporarily switch cabins, and the way they handled the scenario with incredible kindness and graciousness absolutely blew me away. I've stayed at 5-star resorts at triple the cost where the service and hospitality of the staff wasn't even half as good as it was this weekend at Camptown. Everyone we encountered was really fantastic, but Alex really went above and beyond to ensure our anniversary weekend felt special. My wife and I also had dinner at Casa Susanna our first night on property, and really quite enjoyed our meal. The food was fantastic, and the server was beyond wonderful and attentive. Camptown is an absolute home run. Everyone working on this property genuinely deserves immense success, as I feel it's rare these days to find this level of cleanliness, thoughtfulness and attention to detail, and wonderfully gracious hospitality. We cannot...
