Born and raised here, and I've now been to Casa Susana 3 times after watching the business come together and blossom.
When you first walk in, the restaurant retains that old log-cabin feel but has been updated in the perfect ways. The booths and tables and lounge area by the fire are the perfect setting to enjoy some of the best dishes I've ever had in Greene county. The goat birria, the alpine cheese masa app, the perfectly cooked black bass, the chilaquiles at brunch.
I enjoyed dining at the modern wrap-around bar the most! Conversation is encouraged by design, as you face each other while the bartender serves up incredible drinks. Those sitting around me would ask me how my dish was, compare notes and cheer when their first bites were as amazing as others said it would be. One person sitting by me was staying at the cabins for the weekend, and was absolutely delighted that their expectations were blown out of the water by Camptown. There was also a couple, who were long-time area residents from Cairo having a 'staycation' and were pretending to be tourists in their hometown, going from a nearby winery to Casa Susana to end the night. They agreed with me, they'd be returning often for the cocktails and apps if not a full dinner!
One of the most special things this restaurant does is highlight the fermentation elements and pickles across all of their dishes. Every dish is so thoughtfully put together, and as someone who forages for mushrooms and ferments themselves, the mushroom sope and duck confit with mole...
Read moreFANTASTIC option for brunch, Mexican food and general eating and drinking in the Hudson area.
The interior is immediately striking; it is somewhat 2/3ish stories tall, with the downstairs, a proper bar, and upstairs in the window facing side of the building, resembling a ship, with low ceilings and wooden booths overlooking the highway. When you enter the lobby, the ceilings suddenly become very high with several skylights on the roof. There is a long table for bigger groups and comfy looking couches and sitting area behind it. Very similar vibe to Rivertown Lodge in Hudson, classic Scandi chic decor.
The food. Wow. The chilaquiles with Cochina had to be the best Mexican dish I’ve had upstate and possible one of the best I’ve had in the east coast. The cilantro taste was so fresh and powerful, the pork, so succulent and flavorful; the eggs were equally perfect, the yolk runny but everything else cooked. I really couldn’t get enough of my dish. The rest of our group felt the same with their choices.
I had an excellent Michelada: perfectly seasoned on the rim and not too much of the beer or the tomato mix. My parents got the Margarita and the strawberry drink, both of which they said were some of the best cocktails they’re ever had.
The service was incredible as well. Our server, a young blonde woman, was so pleasant, friendly and attentive, not to mention funny.

Read moreBeen waiting for this place to open for a while. Just about everything was on point. The food is delicious. The drinks are yummy. The presentations of both are eye candy. Love the interior design. The decor from the bar to the dining room to the lobby is stunning and the staff are great.
My sole qualm with Casa Susanna is the price point vs ratio. The portions are extremely $mall and drinks like their margarita are on the chintzy side, filling only about 1/3 of the glass. This kind of rubbed me the wrong way considering how expen$$$ive it is. I was hoping this could become a regular spot for us but it's apparent they are catering to a different clientele than the local community. More in league with something you would come across in the Hamptons, aimed at wealthy tourists. Hence, this will have to be a special occasion type of place for many. Too bad! My advice? Work with realistic prices or up those portions significantly! This is Leeds, not Hudson. Let's hope this price gouging doesn't start setting a precedent for new businesses opening on this side of the bridge.
