Overall our stay was just "ok" and definitely not worth the money I paid. We got off to a rocky start right away. When we got to the room everything seemed fairly decent at first. However, it kind of went downhill from there. The balcony was literally covered in dead bugs. I'm not talking about a couple I'm talking about thousands of carcases and bug poop everywhere. It obviously hadn't been cleaned prior to our arrival. I went to the front desk and one of the owners came right up and took a leaf blower and cleaned it off and tried to wipe the bug poop off the chairs. Once that was done we had a nice chat where he explained they just bought the place a few month's ago and they were working on doing upgrades and renovations to the hotel. Still feeling hopeful we kind of shrugged off the whole bug debacle. Once that was done we had more opportunity to look around the room. The bathroom light had a blown out bulb, the toilet seat was very loose, random holes throughout the room, mold in the bottom of the trash can, cobwebs in the corners, missing handle on the sliding glass door, Jacuzzi tub is so obscenely loud it makes it completely unenjoyable etc. Understanding they were doing renovations I tried to shrug it off. Then we found the used/dirty underwear under one of the chairs đł Said panties were definitely NOT ours as we hadn't even been in the room an hour yet nor unpacked!!! I immediately went to the desk and the lady came up and removed them and kinda made a joke about housekeeping not being very thorough. Um OBVIOUSLY 𤎠This hotel is desperately in need of renovation which as I said earlier they are in the process of doing. My biggest problem is I paid almost $200 a night for this room and then they charged me an extra $20 a day to have my dog. With all this stuff that is wrong I was not once offered a discount or anything. They were well aware of the major issues and they are aware that the rooms are not up to par so why are they charging such a crazy price per night in the first place?? This "Resort" is a $50 per night room at the very most in its current condition. Honestly I feel pretty ripped off. My advice is stay far away from here until they finish the renovations. Side note: The beds are not very comfortable, the green carpet in the room is just plain ugly, the pool is very cold and the "hot tub" was just ever so slightly warmer than the frigid pool. On a sort of positive the balcony does offer a partial view of the lake once you look past the parking lot and the houses that block part of the view.
Unrelated to the hotel, but important if staying in the area. The restaurant/cafe that is next door is closed now and there is basically nowhere to eat nearby. The candy shop is still open, but very overpriced and the candy doesn't look that great. For coffee I recommend driving about 15 minutes to "The Lake Life Cafe" in Bemus Point and for food Guppy's which is on the way there. There are other dining options available in Bemus Point as well. Also, check out the Farmer's Market in Westfield on Saturday (in the summer) it's about a 10 minute...
Read moreI was really disappointed. I lived here as a kid and loved the view overlooking the lake. It is it's only positive aspect, aside from some of the staff members working here. This place needs to update it's photos and website, it should be considered deceptive advertisement. It is not near worth the money I had reserved it for. My first red flag was when driving in from Mayville and the restaurant portion has sign posted saying for Sale. I didn't know it wasn't the hotel initially. The candy store is still open, but no bar and restaurant, but there is a restaurant and bar nearby and it is great. I was truly looking forward to this place and hoped the other negative reviews were outliers, but alas, as of last week, this place is not ready to host families for the summer. At the pace of their "renovations" it might be ready by next year. As soon as you walked in you can smell mold. The pool and hot tub was empty and I was told that it was awaiting certification from NYS Health dept. Front desk is not constantly staffed. There were boards with nails sticking out of them in the hall ways. There were 2 doors in which didn't actually lock from the outside. The putt-putt looked tired and moldy. The wall hangings were sitting on the floor, including inside the room. The coffee maker should be tossed into the lake. The internet worked great, but not the TV. There's one photo of my room, and that photo is mildly deceiving, the rest of the room like furniture and fixtures is very tired, easily from the 80's, 90's. I can say that the linens are clean, the room was clean, and the housekeeping staff were pleasant, though I was a bit irked by the envelope "tips are appreciated". That tells me management doesn't pay them enough which is unfortunate as they were worth it. I had to check out after the first day due to the price I was being charged for the condition place and their renovations. The location and view of the lake is still great, but the hotel needs a huge outlay of investment capital and it could truly be a premier place, and next time I pass through, I...
Read moreMy wife had given me Avett Brother tickets for my birthday and made reservations at Webbâs Resort online in April. The place is a bit of a drive from the Chautauqua Institute (6 miles) but itâs one of the few places to stay near the concert venue. We looked at reviews and decided that the reviews complaining of bed bugs and mold were old enough that we would roll the dice. Fast forward 4 months to the first Friday of August, when we made the 5+ hour trip and arrived at Webbâs at 3:30 PM. We were told that they had overbooked our room by three. The manager/front desk attendant did apologize and stated that they would comp the room if we agreed to leave a 5 star Google review and gave us the option of a different room with smaller beds or we could check in to a room with a king size bed that âwas being cleanedâ but we could get into it after the concert. We chose the latter and got the key card.
Following the concert we went back to Webbâs at 11:15 and went to the room. We partially opened the door startling the maintenance man working in the room while he was spackling and painting. (The room wasnât being cleaned). We waited a few minutes at the front desk when the manager/attendant who was doing paperwork in the main lobby finally said âOh, you must be the people in 111.â She was pretty unsympathetic, and informed us that five other people had the same problem (as though that shared pain would be comforting) and blamed their online booking system. We would have no room. Everything from Chautauqua to Batavia was booked due to the Bills Red and Blue game. We literally ended up sleeping in the car a few hours on the Thruway before driving home.
We understand mistakes happen, but it was the smile and light laughter the person at the front desk had when they told us they actually didnât have a room for us that drove home their main point: they simply didnât care. Needless to say, we wonât be staying there...
