Read moreThe lack of accountability or enforcement at the park made our stay very unpleasant. We had loud, inconsiderate neighbors. The breaking point for us was when they set off a bottle rocket. We called the park office (it was 9:30pm) so it wasn't open, but the ranger (a very young lady on this shift) wasn't available and "didn't hear the message or the noise" or she "certainly would have addressed it." The thing is . . . it could still have been addressed right then. The people were still there (mandatory 3 day rental for cabins), and we were leaving early because of it. The facilities were nice. The Gorge was great. We saw camp staff when they were cleaning the bathrooms, but never at any point in between. The young lady checking people into the campground was unnecessarily unpleasant. We were unaware that we needed a parking pass, this being our first time at the campground, so when we returned from a shopping trip the ladies at the gate for the State Park told us we should have been given one. When my wife went into the camp office to ask the polite older woman about the pass, the younger one talked over her and said, "Yeah, SHE left it" --- like we had any idea that we needed it. I think customer service isn't her forte and it was just another thing to cool our love of the place. We won't be back to that campground, though we will return to...
Read moreWe tent camped in Onondaga, site 169. The site is large and well maintained. Enough tree coverage to offer both shade and some protection from rain. I selected this site so we could be closer to the showers/restrm but not so close that there was a lot of foot traffic at our site. There isn't a clear cut path from this site to the bldg without walking thru someone's site unless you don't mind walking thru a small patch of trees and on uneven ground. It's what we did and managed just fine. The women's room was clean enough. Could have used a little more time and attention but as you see, not enough to keep me from giving the park the 5 stars I believe it and they deserve. Our experience checking in was very positive and quick. The two park employees, one at the desk and one working security, were friendly, professional and helpful answering what questions we asked. The pool and pool area is large with restrms/showers and changing area. There is also a smaller, not small, more shallow pool for little ones. The pool deck offers wood bench seats. I suggest bringing your own comfortable chair or lounger if you're going to stay awhile. You can also easily access trails to the gorge...
