There is a reason that they call this place the "Stickett Inn", its because they are going to stickett to you. I just got married in Eldred, NY, and dealing with Johnny and Roswell (the owners of the Inn) was the worst decision I made during my wedding and the only miserable part. I didn't even stay at the Stickett, I referred friends, literally helping the Stickett get customers and make money, and they treated me and my now husband with disrespectful from beginning to end.
I initially reached out to reserve rooms for my wedding guests. I should have known then what unprofessionals they are. It took awhile for them to respond, my wedding venue had to actually contact them in order for them to return my calls and emails. Then, once I paid a deposit of almost $2000 to reserve rooms for my guests, they never returned my friends calls for rooms. I had to reach out to them repeatedly. They even double booked rooms for one of my guests which I had to clear up (of note, they only have five rooms, wouldn't seem difficult to manage reservations). I ended up just asking for our deposit back after only three of their five rooms were booked because it was too much work on my end to communicate with Johnny and Roswell. They then took weeks to return our deposit. Initially refusing. We had to contemplate small claims court to bring an action against them while we were getting married.
This was months before I got married. I then had no contact with Johnny and Roswell again until the day before my wedding. I received a call from Johnny and when I answered my cellphone he was belligerent, yelling at me and telling me I was a monster and the worst person. And that he hated my guests. I had no idea what he was talking about as I was getting ready for my rehearsal dinner. I repeatedly asked him to calm down and explain what was going on. My friends had only booked three of their five rooms and there were several other weddings occurring in the area. After I hung up on him because my blood pressure was racing from some man yelling at me, he texted me about my guest "Audrey" who had canceled one night at their Inn. I then explained to Johnny over text that I don't know an Audrey or have a wedding guest by the name of Audrey. He continued to berate and threaten over texts, and said he was going to contact all my wedding vendors the night before my wedding in an attempt to I guess blacklist me and my husband, and that he was going to illegally charge my credit card with this Audrey person's cancellation. See attached photos of the texts.
I spoke to my few friends who were staying at the Stickett and apparently right before he called me, he called one of my friends thinking she was me and berated her and her husband as well about this Audrey. He told them that he hated weddings and was going to "burn down his Inn". Quite outrageous conduct in reaction to someone canceling a night at an Inn.
After these Johnny episodes, my friends who were staying at the Stickett spoke to Roswell who they told me was visibly shaken. However, he defended Johnny by saying he was just "Italian" and stressed at a fashion show in the City. Of course, this is beyond offensive, for Italians and for me. I texted Roswell to tell him what happened and say that if Johnny threatened me again, I would call the cops. To date, I have not received an apology from either.
This is how these people treat their customers. As you will see in the texts, Johnny said I should go ahead and write a review about their horrible conduct. Thanks Johnny for the permission.
Do yourself a favor, book at Ecce, the owners are lovely and treated my guests like actual customers. Or the Catskill Mountain resort, unfortunately that hotel was booked for another wedding when I was getting married. Or refer your friends to the countless Airbnbs in the area. According to all the vendors I spoke with after dealing with Johnny and Roswell, they are notorious for disrespecting...
Read moreI recommend that you steer clear of the Stickett Inn. I found the proprietor to be unprofessional, dishonest, and spiteful. Here’s the evidence:||||I had to cancel a 3-night reservation at the Stickett Inn because of a sudden scheduling conflict, and I only had a few days to do it before losing the $200 deposit that the Inn had already collected. I was shocked to discover that there’s no way to cancel reservations on the Inn’s website, so I tried calling. For two full days no one answered the phone! Also, the voicemail box was full, so I couldn’t even leave a message. (I don’t know how anyone can run an inn this way.) Next I tried emailing, but again, no response, and the refund deadline was rapidly approaching.||||At the end of the third day of failing to reach the Inn via phone, email, and even Facebook messenger, my girlfriend cleverly started calling other inns in Barryville, assuming that some of the innkeepers might know each other. Neither she nor I have ever had to work so hard to cancel a reservation. It cost each of us a great deal of time and aggravation. After contacting nearly half a dozen businesses in Barryville, one of them kindly gave us the personal cell number of the Stickett Inn’s owner, whom we texted right away. He was blasé, at best. Without even acknowledging the tremendous inconvenience he had caused, much less apologizing for it, he responded to my refund request by sending me a copy of my original reservation but with the amount zeroed out. That’s neither a refund nor even an acknowledgement of cancellation. The document suggested, in fact, that my 3-night stay was still on the books and was going to be free of charge. Several more days passed without a refund.||||Long story short, the innkeeper spent the next WEEK AND A HALF pretending he had submitted my refund while claiming that it “wasn’t being processed” for one reason or another. First he blamed his credit company, then his bank, and when I finally called his bluff and sent him a Venmo link, he simply ghosted me. To get my refund, I had to issue him an ultimatum: “Vemno my refund by 5:00 pm Saturday, or I’ll report you to my credit company and fill the Internet with negative reviews.” In textbook passive-aggressive fashion, he responded at 4:59 pm and sent the refund five minutes later.||||The Stickett Inn certainly has an amusing name and marketing scheme, but if you’re more interested in professionalism, competence, and honesty than you are in titillating puns, better (and less expensive) options abound in and...
