The real problem of this stay was after - specifically the STAFF.
After we left my GF realized she left an airpod behind in the room. We called and spoke to staff and offered to pay shipping to have them send it back to us. They found the airpod in the room and said they would be happy to mail it back, no need for us to pay. Yay! Easy win for them and I couldn't wait to write a good review.
But no...sadly thus began a 2 month saga of calling and asking everyone including the owner what the status of the airpod return was. We got stories of sick employees, employees who quit, snarky bartenders who couldn't care less, and an owner who would "get to the bottom of it" then ghost us and never return a call. The airpods were never sent and never received.
And after my 10th, no...20th call to the hotel, completely exasperated, I let an employee know this was my last attempt and without any contact back that my only recourse was to blanket social media about the incompetence happening there.
And we still never heard from them again!
Please note I hate giving bad reviews - but this is deserved. I really really tried to get any courtesey I could. I know in the end it didn't matter to them - clearly, but it did to us. They're expensive. I'd rather they just lied form the get go - than go through this journey. They had every opportunity to get a win from us and be our heroes and get a shouting at the rooftops good review.
So, if you want to have this kind of "assurance" in your next stay, maybe they'll have your reservation, maybe not...maybe they'll have your food order - who knows?? Whatever happens - know that it's probably not as assured as you think. I can't imagine a place that cares as little for parted guests, can care that much more for guests that are arriving.
SUGGESTION - go up the street to the STICKETT INN instead. They have a little coffee shop (good coffee) and a taqueria (great breakfast burrito!) and lots of inappropriate puns (they have their own CIDER). Wish we had done so.
AND if we are ever back that way we will avoid the River's Edge in Barryville.
Room notes:
The room was fine. The light on the refrigerator glowed like the sun and was awful. Had to put a coat over it to...
Read moreMy friend and I visited here for a late lunch on our way to a concert at Bethel Woods. The vibe here is very nice with fresh flowers on each of the tables. They offer a nice area for outdoor seating. Upon entering, we were told we could seat ourselves. Our server brought us menus and two small glasses of water and took our drink order. We both ordered sodas. She returned a few minutes later without our drinks to take our food order. I ordered a steak sandwich with truffle fries, and my friend ordered the chicken fingers and fries from the kids menu. The menu is very limited and does not offer many selections. You can choose from about 7 entrees, a few appetizers, salads, and a kid's menu. The menu found online does not match the menu that they give to you at the restaurant. After that, it pretty much went downhill. We didn't get our sodas for at least 10 to 15 minutes. When our food arrived, they forgot about my truffle fries and instead I was given the plain fries that came with the sandwich. The steak sandwich was some kind of thin, unflavored steak coated/fried in some kind of batter. It was served on a roll with cucumber Dill spread, arugula, tomato (sliced crooked and super thick), pepperoncinis, and cheese. I didn't like it at all as to me, the flavors didn't mesh very well together. On a positive note, my friend did enjoy her chicken fingers and fries. Our server did not seem very friendly. I didn't see her smile one time. She appeared to be very overwhelmed with a lot to do, although there weren't many people dining this late in the afternoon. So I don't know what the issue was. Anyway, this was one and...
Read moreI can't speak to the restaurant, but the hotel, which was advertised as a trendy boutique hotel, is not even a hotel, it is a motel. It was dirty, the bath was still wet from the last guest, there were bugs, stagnant water in the coffee pot, the post card hadn't even been switched out for a new one after the previous guest had written on it. The door didn't fully close. In order to get to the rooms you have to walk down a skinny, winding staircase, which is not accessible for large bags much less someone who has any sort of walking disability. Probably worst of all though, the key to the door was a code which doesn't sound like it changes night to night. This was the nail in the coffin for us and we left to find a different hotel where we felt safe. No refund due to their policies, though we didn't even feel safe asking for one. Do...
