Ingeniously inveigled into the shell of Piermont’s mid-nineteenth century firehouse, Riverview B&B is a charming and characterful place to stay. The appeal of which is abetted by the attention and personal touches of the owner, Carolla. As with many boutique B&Bs, it’s not without some foibles but none that we discovered detracted from a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Our lodgings were in the Firehouse suite about which this review relates. ||||The good: well-located on a relatively quiet street and backing onto – indeed, overhanging – a small tidal creek that runs through what was Piermont’s original nucleus; the town’s modern centre of action is within an easy walk or a very short drive. Carolla was responsive and helpful with our protracted (thanks to Covid) booking arrangements. Finding the property, parking and check-in were painless and she provided a comprehensive intro to the suite which was conspicuously clean, as quiet as a cemetery, comfortable and tastefully furnished with quasi-period pieces. Everything expected was there and it all worked as expected. The sitting room is bright, spacious and relaxing; the kitchen/dining nook is roomy and equipped enough to cook up a gourmet spread. The queen bed was comfortable, the linens crisp and clean and there were enough pillows for each of us to find a favourite. The Wifi worked well on all our devices and there is a handy work desk from which to use it. A wholesome breakfast of eggs to order or whatever other personal preference is delivered to the suite at your time of choice. || ||The not so good: although separated from the bathroom the WC is as tight as it’s possible to get whilst remaining usable. The shower stall has a fabric screen and is also quite compact which limits any enthusiastic showering. The suite, indeed, the entire B&B is overshadowed by condominiums in a historic silk mill across the creek maybe 8 metres away. For laden tourists, luggage space is at something of a premium but for more disciplined travellers or a short stay it...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed in Alida's suiet for 3 nights. The bedroom it self is small, but the bed and linens were very comfortable. There is many areas to store your clothes while staying. We also had private use of the adjoining living/dining room. My wife also enjoyed the jet tub in the private bathroom. The hostest Carolla was very nice, and accommodating. She offered us a tasty breakfast in the mornings, and made suggestions of where to eat dinner in the area. It is about a 10 minute walk down the road to the village of Piermont. There are about a dozen local restaurants, and boutique style clothing stores. The three restaurants we ate at were tasty. A bit pricey, but not too bad. The quality of food was worth the price. It is also about a 20-30 drive over the river to Sleepy Hallow/Tarrytown. And the Great Jack O'lantern Blaze. We would recommend a stay at this b&b for couples looking for a getaway. BTW. If you are not from the area, you should know that Piermont is down the slopes of Hudson Valley near the river. That being said, there are many dark winding roads with steep hills and sharp turns and hidden driveways. Make sure your comfortable diving in those situations. It can be a bit...
Read moreThis was the worst experience I've ever had at a hotel/motel/bed and breakfast. When we arrived, the kitchen was a mess... half eaten fruit on the counter and crumbs all over the kitchen. The owner's dog has a bed in the kitchen. The room we were supposed to stay in was TINY and the mattress was so old that it had permanent indentations from years of previous guests sleeping in it . The ceiling in the living area was peeling, the mirror on the bedroom closet door was cracked, the window to the door in the living area was covered with a piece of cardboard and the doorknob was missing. The paint was chipped and peeling in our bedroom and in the living area and the refrigerator had rotting food inside. As if all of that wasn't enough, she told us that she had just found two dead mice floating in her kitchen sink that morning... then asked us what we wanted for breakfast. My girlfriend and I refused to stay and the owner still declines to refund us our money. A call to the better business bureau and the Rockland County Health Department are definitely in order! This place was disgusting! Can I rate...
