While doing Genealogy of my family we planned a trip to Seneca County, then found out that my 5th Great GrandUncles home was a B&B in the same town of Ovid that I would be researching a relative. We booked the Capt. Elijah Suite for a long weekend in August. The warm greeting from Ted & Molly made us feel welcomed right from the start, a tour of the 1800's home furnished with period pieces was amazingly well thought out and done. You could sense the love and thought that went into the house and grounds that Ted & Molly renovated over the years to keep that original look and feel. A perfect location on a quiet road made the stay all the better and an unbelievable breakfast served every morning!! We are so appreciative of the time spent walking the grounds with Ted and getting the history of the ice pond, scribe barn etc. and all of Mollys help with research material from their library and again a hearty 3 course breakfast each morning! Our stay at the Capt. Kinne house was perfect and if we could give them a 10 star...
Read moreWe recently enjoyed several nights and delightful days at the historic Captain Kinne House in Ovid, NY. What a treat! The house has been beautifully restored and there are antique treasures and personal touches throughout. The atmosphere is relaxing, the history fascinating, and Molly's bountiful farmhouse breakfast is the best. We stayed in the charming Captain Kinne Suite, indulged in a soak in the slipper tub and nights in the comfy four poster bed. With Ted, we explored the spacious grounds, learned about the history of the land, barns and out buildings, as well as, the peaceful spots to relax near the pond, a burbling brook and the old foundation patio. From this lovely secluded spot, it is walking distance to downtown Ovid. There is much to investigate in the area as well. Don't miss the Muranda Dairy Farm cheese sampling experience. Many thanks to our gracious hosts Molly and Ted for this...
Read moreThe Captain Kinne House website says, “Feel free to retreat and unplug.” We couldn’t agree more. While close to the village of Ovid, the B&B is on a quiet country road, not on a highway or a Main Street, so the setting is peaceful as well as historic. The pictures on the website accurately capture the beauty of the surrounding property as well as the clean and comfortable bedrooms and common areas. (We stayed in the Elijah Kinne Suite, which has its own sitting room and full bathroom with both a tub and a shower.) Molly’s delicious three-course breakfast is as pictured—really superb and different each day. And finally, a special word about Ted and Molly themselves, our warm, welcoming, and friendly hosts, who made us feel right at home. We loved it and will definitely stay...
