We originally booked five nights here but had to leave after the fourth due to what appeared to be bed bugs.
On the first night, I woke up with five bites but assumed they were mosquito bites. The second night, I woke up around 3am with new bites - this time two on my cheek and four on my fingers. My travel companion had no bites at all, which made the mosquito theory less likely, but we searched the room anyway and found no mosquitos.
On the third night, I again woke up with even more bites on my arms and face, despite no signs of mosquitoes. Several people we spoke to immediately said, “Those are bed bug bites.” I looked up the symptoms and realized our situation checked every box, though I was still trying to give the benefit of the doubt.
Before bed on the fourth night, we inspected the mattress (which was the only new thing in the room) and found no visible signs. I also counted all my existing bites to monitor for new ones. Sure enough, I woke up with more bites on my face and three tiny black specks on my pillow, which is a telltale sign of bed bug droppings. At this point I had well over 20 bites, so we packed up and left.
I informed the owners on our way out. Unfortunately, they dismissed my concerns without even listening to what we experienced. They insisted it was mosquito bites because “bed bugs only bite in twos”—despite seeing the clear pattern of bites across my face and arms, many of which were in pairs. After three days of itching, some bites had even fused together.
I hesitated to write this because I don’t want to harm a small business, but the owners were unwilling to even consider the possibility of bed bugs, so I have no confidence the problem will be addressed. These bites are extremely itchy, painful, and difficult to manage, especially when traveling, and now we have to worry about taking them home. Whatever you do,...
Read moreIt was a late Sunday evening and we were all hungry & tired. Without many choices along the way, we decided to stop at the Village Motel in Richfield Springs. A lovely woman came within a minute after ringing the bell, and made sure we found the right accommodation for the evening. She also was very helpful directing us to which eateries were open at that hour on a Sunday, mind you. The room was quaint, in a 1960's kind of way, but very clean and freshly painted. The bathroom fixtures and heating/cooling systems were up to date. The bed was comfortable, the satellite dish TV worked well, and there were even complimentary bottles of water for us in the fridge. All in all, I'd give this facility a 5-star rating considering the cost of the room, and availability. It's nice to know this place is there when I choose to take US 20 instead of the NY Thruway when traveling West to East through New York State, which I usually...
Read moreI stayed here for two nights when I was in town for a show at Glimmerglass. From the street, it looks pretty rundown (a new sign might help with that impression) but the room was very comfortable, with a desk and chair along with two full beds, a microwave, a sizable fridge and freezer, and a coffee pot. The bathroom had good shower pressure and both soap and shampoo available. Reliable wifi and nice large TV. Everything was in good working order, updated, and very clean. Very quiet at night! It appears to be owned and operated by a woman who lives in a house on the grounds and she seems to do all the maintenance and custodial work too-- clearly very hard-working! I totally recommend staying here for a great value near...
