Pow Wow Inn — Hotel in Tucumcari

I travel thru Tucumcari a few times throughout the year. I have had my eye on this place. Noticing the fixing up that's been going on.|Last night I decided to push on thru Amarillo, and have a nice genuine Route 66 motel to round off my trip up north.|I came around 10:30. Nobody was in the office, so I went to the bar next door and got the number for the motel.|A guy promptly came and helped me check in.|He was friendly and very helpful.|The price was great. |And I got more than I paid for.|A large clean room.|Nice Southwest Indian decor.|A nice courtyard.|I liked having 2 doors in my room so I didn't have to go clear around the building to enjoy the courtyard.|I grew up in the 70's and 80's and this place reminded me of trips I had with my family.|They are fixing the place up. I was not planning on staying here. I rented a room in La Quinta in Amarillo, and they had a specific check in time and I was late, so after 12:00 a.m. my reservation was cancelled, then I was without a room because the hotel was full. So we decided to keep driving and we got to Tucumcari, we called all the known hotels in the area and they were full, so we drove into town and we found this hotel. I was so happy I did not want to sleep in the car, and the price was very affordable. They had a sign at the reception to call a number so my husband called and a guy came out of the place and showed my husband the room and we rented the room. Comments apply only to the restaurant area, not the motel itself as we have never stayed there. Service is always quick and friendly. The menu selections are varied, but as you would expect from their location, they have a number of Mexican food offerings that are excellent. A unique feature from the restaurant is that there are murals on the walls by the booths that feature local residents who patronize the restaurant. Prices are quite reasonable and the portions are very generous. The general manager is often present in the late afternoon and evening hours, and visits every table to make sure that everything is to your liking.
