I have been staying at the Howard Johnson and then the Red Roof Inn for a little over 2 years checking in on Monday afternoon and leaving Thursday morning. On the 5th of August my wife realized that we had bed bugs, which I thought were roaches and asked the front desk numerous times if the owner was using a pest control company. After realizing I had brought bed bugs home we went through our credit card statements and found where I had been charged several times for the 3 days I stayed and for 5 more days for the same dates and the rest of the week, so basically I was being charged for 8 days in one week. When I confronted the person I was told owned both hotels named AJ about the over charging and the bed bugs he said he would get me a check right away and contact a woman im assuming is over the books for the numerous hotels he owns in Tuscaloosa, didn’t say let me check our books or anything just to contact a women I believe her name was Jannell I could be wrong because they would not give me her number and she would not return my calls. A couple hours later the front desk contacted me and told me they had a check at the front desk for me. When I opened it the check was for $625 not even the amount that I was overcharged and definitely not what I was out of pocket for the bed bug’s because I was still fighting to get rid of them so I didn’t even have an itemized list of the expenses for the bed bugs and no one would give me any information of why I had been overcharged. We have fought bed bugs from Aug the 5th until Oct the 10th was the last time I have found any sign after 2 months of first burning all our pillows, bedding, 2 comforters and buying a mattress encasement, new pillows, sheets and pillow cases, and a new comforter. Me and my wife have washed and dried all our clothes at least 5 times, constantly vacuuming, and used two 5 step boxes of Harris bed bug treatment. When I went to the owner again he told me the check was for the bed bugs and wanted to trade free rooms for the money but when I refused he got extremely angry and told me to leave so now I have no choice but to get a lawyer to put together everything I’m out of pocket and the remaining charges on my credit card together and if he refuses to pay them I have no choice but to sue him in small claims court. I’m posting pics below of the bed bugs and the last time I stayed when I checked in on Monday I placed a small sticker from a pack of socks on the comforter and left Thursday morning it was on a home game weekend in Tuscaloosa and when I got back the following Monday the same comforter was still on the bed because the small sticker was still there and I was almost always given the same room and the lady at the front desk said they were sold out of rooms due to the game so the comforter was on there for atleast a week who knows how much longer. I strongly recommend not staying at any hotel that’s owned by these people, I think there’s 11 but u can look up the name of the group that owns all these hotels. Below are photos of bed bugs and me waking up in the night after being bitten...
Read moreSo, I am a few days late on this review as I almost forgot after the long drive home. But, this hotel was wonderful to us. We stayed 8 days I believe for my fiance's work there. The room was very clean and very SPACIOUS compared to most we stay in. Pet friendly with no additional fee which is hard to come by these days. They also had ample space to walk our girls--dogs, lots of grassy areas. There is an easy accessible gas station just a few yards away also. They had an awesome breakfast. (Eggs, bacon, sausage, waffle maker, blueberry and plain bagels + butter/cream cheese packs, yogurt, cereal, BISCUITS & GRAVY ❤ milk, oj, and apple juice plus of course coffee with vanilla or hazelnut creamers. ) We do NOT always have this luxury considering we travel with our dogs often and our options are limited. My only wish is that breakfast had started maybe 30 mins sooner so my fiance could have enjoyed some of this. We have stayed in hotels in the past that would -- when construction/industrial workers were in town -- at least turn on the juice machines and maybe set some bagels out a little earlier or cereal since many of them had to be at work at the time breakfast started. (Not a complaint, simply a suggestion for staff based from observing your guests routines- especially weekly or long term guests.) Staff here were So Friendly and accommodating. Everyone greeted me with a smile at least. It is also located in a nice area. I wasn't nervous being out alone at night. 3 washers+/3 dryers on the 2nd floor. An ice machine on I know at least 1-3 floors. (I didnt go on 4th or 5th so I can't say for those) a drink vending machine on the 1st & 3rd & a snack vending machine on the 2nd floor. (We travel A lot so I know every little convenience makes a difference) This place made it an easy Stay FOR SURE. For upgraded rooms, they also give u a snack box with h2o, Orange juice, granola bars & maybe 1-2 other snacks. (Also, for any Pokemon go fans, there's a poke stop on site, and always lots of Pokemon everywhere.😂 it's also a picnic area under a pavillion- another plus) We will stay here again next time we...
Read moreGame day weekend in Tuscaloosa is always busy and hotel prices jump through the roof. My family and I stayed two nights here during homecoming weekend and there was a full house. Two double bed rooms for two nights cost a little over $1,500 and the service/rooms were horrible.
When looking at the pictures online and viewing the hotel pulling up, it looks fairly new. This hotel is only two years old to be exact, but once we were in the hotel and in our rooms there was a totally different view. The hotel looks quite beat up and ran through. The check-in process at the front desk was long and very unorganized. Our rooms were half cleaned and the towels were just plain disgusting. When we pulled the comforter back on the bed, there was hair and stains everywhere. Even the mattress protector was disgusting. One of the front desk clerks gave us a new set of sheets/pillow covers, but they weren’t much better.
Our second day there we returned to our room for it to look the same as it was before we left. Housekeeping did not clean our room and we were not given any fresh towels. I went to the front desk to ask for clean towels and the man working the desk said that they did not have any clean towels. Yes you heard me correctly. After I informed him that our rooms were not cleaned and we did not get any towels, he then went to one of the staff only areas and “supposedly clean” towels appeared. When I got to the room to distribute the towels to everyone we noticed that they were FILTHY. They had black stains on them and had hair embedded all in them. We were so disgusted that we could not use the towels and opted not to shower. When I asked the same clerk about this he just brushed me off. I will NEVER stay at this hotel again and I’m only giving them 1 star because this is the lowest rating I can give. It I could give them zero stars I would. I highly do NOT recommend this hotel...
