These days clean and comfortable roadside motels are a lot harder to find than they were in my youth. As a result, making our lodging plans when working an out of state wedding has become a lot harder than it used to be. ||Luckily I was able to find a decent rate through my company to stay at the Quality Inn Union City. My partner was a bit uncertain about it upon check in with how far out from the rest of town it was and how close in proximity it was to the highway. But I assured her reviews were nothing but positive for this property. She especially warmed up to it after I showed her where we would've stayed instead. ||Check in was incredibly fast and easy, lobby was definitely older but incredibly clean and spacious. We were placed in room 210 adjacent to the stairs and far enough away from the highway noise. The room was spacious and included 2 queen beds which made for more than adequate room for working in. My partner used the shower after we checked in and informed me she had to clear a spider web and take out a couple flies before she could shower. But honestly for value lodging those are the least of my worries and have encountered worse. Wifi was fast and incredibly easy to use which was incredibly helpful because I had absolutely NO cell signal in our room (Thanks T-Mobile...) thankfully though when it came time to get dinner the hotel book suggested Snappy Tomato Pizza which I hadn't tried in nearly 20 years. Excited at the prospect of reliving my better days, I was grateful that the in-room phone still worked (an amenity I also have not utilized in decades) and proceeded to order some pizza for the two of us. ||Pizza delivery girl arrived with our food and two sodas shortly after. If I would change anything about this room it would've been the length of the table, as it was not nearly big enough to fit our pizza and drinks which led us to becoming creative and placing the pizza box on the bed while we utilized the breadstick box as a makeshift plate. ||Shortly after eating, we got settled into the bed which was INCREDIBLY comfortable. A big surprise especially for a property like this. ||The next morning we were up bright and early for breakfast as we had to be at our venue by 8:30 AM. Breakfast was more than adequate for this kind of property. Was pleasantly surprised by the availability of yogurt and oatmeal as well. I don't know where Choice Hotels get their sausages but they're always delicious. Can't say the same for their biscuits but I usually get toast or cereal anyway. ||We returned to the property around 11AM and ate our leftover pizza for lunch, LOVED having a minifridge in the room and wish this were the standard for all value motels. My partner took a nap for the next hour while I proceeded to continue working on the music selections for the wedding. | |While working all of a sudden my cellphone rang in the room (something I was not expecting as I mentioned there was NO cell signal in the room....thanks T-Mobile..) turns out my mother had called me. Unfortunately, I had to walk out into the parking lot in order to return her call. However, I did not have to walk very far before I was back in signal range. That's hardly the fault of the property management though. Nonetheless, I expected better signal considering everywhere else in town reception was fine. (FIX THIS T-MOBILE) ||After getting off the phone with my mother. I returned to the room and proceeded to get ready for the wedding. ||Wedding was a hit and the couple were incredibly sweet. Loved working with them and felt incredibly welcome. We arrived back to the motel at around 11PM with McDonald's in hand and a great feeling of another job well done. We stayed up for a little while we ate our food and got settled in. We were fast asleep in a matter of minutes. Thankfully with the wedding now complete we were free to sleep in the next morning which we did until about 9 am (10 our time) and proceeded to partake in breakfast once more. ||I reminded my partner that if we leave out around 10am Central that we could make it back around 2PM and still have the remaining day to rest. She agreed and we were able to get checked...
Read moreI made reservations for two separate rooms for May 6 and 7 at the Quality Inn in Union City, TN, for my daughter's graduation from UT-Martin: one room for my wife and me, the other for my mother-in-law. Since my mother-in-law has special needs, I reserved the king bed suite for her on ChoiceRewards points, and my wife and I had reservations for a nearby room with 2 queen beds (2 beds to accommodate one of our other college-age children in the event one was able to attend the UT-Martin graduation) at the AAA rate.
On May 6, I received a call from the Union City Quality Inn informing me that the person in the king suite wanted to extend his stay, that they had promised him the room, and that the room was now no longer available for my mother-in-law. I was confused because I had the room reserved for about two months. How could the hotel just give the room away?
The May 6 phone call was not to ask if I would give up the room, but that the room had already been given away. Finding out one day in advance of check-in that the hotel was not honoring its reservations is unacceptable. At this point I had no options. I asked if there were two rooms close together that we could have for the two nights and was told that that could be done. We stayed in the two 2-queen rooms that weren't adjoining, but were next to one another.
My question is this: How does a hotel just give up a room in spite of the fact that it has already been reserved...
Read moreI stayed at the location in Union City, TN. The hotel staff was unbelievably sweet and helpful. We checked in a little late and they were very accommodating. The lobby is beautiful and the one we stayed at had an 11am checkout time which was very nice. The room we had was in a very convient location (right by a secondary entrance to the lobby and by the pool). They had breakfast until 10am with a crazy good spread (pancakes, biscuits and gravy, sausage, cheesy eggs, donuts) as well as a variety of drink choices (orange juice, Apple juice, cranberry juice, water, and a couple different types of coffee). During breakfast a hotel member kept everything clean and as we were walking out every member (front desk, greeting, and cleaning staff) greeted us with a smile. The room was gorgeous as well! There was a comphy desk chair and chill chair, beautiful furniture, and a king size bed that was actually a king size bed. I stayed in the nonsmoking Jacuzzi King size room. We only had one issue that turned out to be on our end. We couldn't get the tub to work so we called the front desk. Apparently you have to turned the dial by the light switch. She answered quickly courteously and informed us of the issue right away. If I'm ever in the area again I will...
