There were bugs, little ones, big ones, half alive ones, and dead ones. The smell didn't come until we turned on the very noisy and squealing ac. It smelled stale, and made so much noise. It wasn't enough noise to drown out the sound of people talking outside the door, the stale smell also didn't cover up the smell of smoke coming in from people smoking outside our door. The window curtain still let in enough light so you felt like you were sleeping on the surface of the sun, and people walking by made for fun shadow games on the walls, since we couldn't sleep anyway. The beds are small, metal spring mattresses, lumpy and difficult to get comfortable on. I can't speak to the water pressure or the food, as the bathtub drain was holding stale water when we arrived, so we didn't try it. The front office did give us a trash bag for our bags so we didn't transfer a roach infestation to our car. They also said they'd of given us a new room, but changing rooms all night in the same facility rarely helps. They did refund 10%, but for the $90 we spent on the room, spending an extra $12-15 somewhere else to not have bugs and a headache in the morning is worth it. They allow 2 pets per room and the doors open directly to the outside. Thankfully they don't have carpet and the pest guy had been here two weeks ago - but they forgot to sweep up all the dead carcasses. If it had been a $40 nightly fee, I'd of expected bugs, light, noise, and mystery smells. The people at the front desk were very friendly and kind. The bathmats was new, not used and when unfolded, had hair and bugs on it.

Conveniently located north of I-70, and north of the main town, the Quality Inn is a nice place to stop. We stopped there twice on the same trip. It is more of a motel (exterior hallway) than an actual Inn (interior hallway). The rooms were large, clean, simple and updated; the heating works and there is a frig, microwave and coffee machine. WiFi was fine. And there is satellite TV. Pool was closed for the season but the pool area looked huge. The breakfast was the same several days apart with microwaved over easy eggs, sausages, biscuits and gravy. There is the usual waffle maker. Standard continental breakfast foods like breads, yogurt, apple/banana, juice, cereal, coffee, etc. To get to the hotel, you have to drive thru a parking lot that’s not part of the hotel. Nov ‘24

No problems. Check in was easy. Our room looked and smelled clean. Good shower pressure. Wifi wasn't robust, but it worked for our purposes. HVAC was relatively quiet. Breakfast area was very quiet as there is no music or TV--not all bad. It's not deluxe, but it wasn't bad either. And items were being replenished as people came. Quite a bit of TV noise and talking came through the connecting room door in our room. Thankfully our neighbors went to bed early. Also be mindful that there are no elevators, so if you have trouble with stairs, be sure to get a first-floor room. All in all, a pretty good value. I'd make the same choice again given the area options.

The only good part of my husbands stay was the location. Our power was off so we needed a local room because it was Friday Oct, the 3rd when we checked in or actuslly early Sat the the i called the hotel to get a room checl priced ivwas told one price on the phone the man told me he was in a department reservation department to be exact, never took. My name. Told me I needed to get up there real quick because I only had one room left. I arrived to the location The desk worker was very rude. Treated me like he didn’t want to rent the room to me I have ADHD so I get a little wound up. I was running late for work, so I’m sure I look like a meth head. There was another man behind me when the man that took my money for our room and for me there was gonna be $100 deposit added onto the room said OK fine my card was declined. I had to call my husband to add money to my account so I can pay the hotel bill. I brushed it off like it was no big deal the next day I went to get my deposit and all my things back. I got to the front desk. The employee behind the desk was very nice. She greeted me was very polite till she found out what room I was in when she found out I was in remote 105 which is the room that they give to people that undesirables her whole attitude changed, not only did. She treat me worse than I’ve ever been treated, but she also was screaming at me because I wanted my deposit backwanted me to sit in the chair while she went and checked my room room that they gave me had peeling paint and a funny smell. When last I knew Illinois was a smoke free inside. I was offered a smoking room then it was taken. I was up charged. I find out now and paid for the price of a two Kings and I got a full-size two full-size beds. I would suggest anybody that is white or anything different than an Indian I wouldn’t go to quality Inn in Vandalia. The new management has turned up place into a nightmare. I’d stay there a few other times when they had other employees, great place everybody was laughing, smiling and was polite. These were horrible people not only did the woman yell at me, but she called up two more men to scream at me before I left and then wanted to make sure they told me they was gonna call the police on me cause I wanted my money back do not stay at quality Inn in Vandalia. Yes and the woman behind the desk also cslled the men to get me tobleave spoke English to me, then spoke her language to the man on the phone talking about me the whole time whole trip is that when I noticed they changed the price for locals to stay in the motel. It went from $100-$200 so if you look like somebody that they don’t think you should look like like I said, I was distraught when I go in there I was running late for work. I was a little scattered. I probably looked just like a meth head and they treated me as such without even knowing me. We have to stop doing this to each other, cause those people are no better. Hell they’re all getting grants to run businesses, and these people are working behind a desk and judging me,...

My wife and I booked this location in advance as we were making our way to Texas. The hotel is dated; however, it is evident that are making efforts in small ways to improve its appearance. They were doing some landscaping work in the center court near the main entrance when we checked in. Our room was on the ground floor and near parking so that was a plus. it was a very nice and clean. I requested by phone to the front desk male clerk that we receive a wakeup call and two additional pillows. After waiting 30 minutes, I went down to the check in area to follow-up on my request. The desk clerk was checking in other guests. I waited my turn and asked about the pillows. He stated he would have them sent as soon as he could. I reminded him again about the specific time of our wakeup call. I returned to our room and secured the door with the inside lock and additional safety hasp that is provided. My wife was already in bed, and I went into the bathroom for a moment. Just as I was getting ready to come out, I heard a knock at our door and my wife clearly said to please hold on, we will be right there. By time I got near the front door the employee had used his credentials to open the door. Had I not used the secondary latch he would have just entered. A gentleman was standing in the doorway with my pillows, and I could not understand what he said to me. I gave him a small tip and sent him on his way. The next morning, we woke up on our own as we never did get a wakeup call. When I checked out, I asked the female desk clerk what the procedure or policy was for wakeup calls. She was unable to give me a clear answer but did say she was sorry about the mistake. This was the second time in a row that we had stayed at a Choice Hotel and did not receive a wakeup call. I believe some of issues in part were caused because of a language barrier with my interaction with some of...

This Hotel was amazing. I was a former long time customer at a competing Hotel in Vandalia. After a extremely bad experience (after 5 years of being a customer) I decided to look at other Hotels in Vandalia. I am glad I did. Here is my unbiased, no compensated review. I am a retired IT / Facilities manager. I asked the desk clerk if all the rooms were as nice as the one I stayed in (101) and he said they were all the same. The room was large, the bathroom was large. The lamps had two plugs (one for my computer and the other for cell phone) 2 toggle switches for dim and bright desk light. The internet was easy to log into and fast, although I forgot to do a speedtest.net. My use was for e-mail only on this trip and some minor file uploads. It did a great job. I nice touch and something you only see on 4 and 5 star hotels, was the nice way they had the towels setup, with little pockets for soap and face cloths. The parking lot was well lit, and if I had a suggestion it would be some sort of lighting on the main road to the hotel. That was a little dark. The breakfast was a full hot meal. Eggs, sausage, Biscuits and gravy, and all the other "usual" stuff such as pancakes, coffee, OJ and cereal items. One note is the nice package of whipped butter. Not the tiny ones, but a good size one. Both desk clerks were very friendly and I got the impression that they might even own the hotel. If not they acted like it, or certainly cared about the experience of the traveler. Heat and Air worked great, TV worked great and the bed was very comfortable. I liked the walk in shower. I don't encounter those too often. Don't know what else to say, other than I highly recommend this place. Oh yes one more item, it was about $5.00 cheaper than the other place that doesn't provide a breakfast with the hot...
