Sonic Drive-In — Restaurant in Vandalia

Would like to say the poor boy thats working tonight is an absolute sweetheart, this review is NOT pointed at him.

I pulled into a stall and ordered a large order of mozzarella sticks at about 9:30pm. I am writing this, still sitting and waiting for those mozzarella sticks, at 10:25pm watching this poor carhop try to serve and keep up with everyone that flooded in from our lake's early July 4th firework show. It is the busiest I've ever seen this place, and whoever is in charge of this location couldn't bother to schedule anything more than what looks like a 2-person skeleton crew. It's always like this, you will always wait 30-45 minutes for a drink or two, and I have come to believe it is because whoever handles scheduling is incompetent or does not care. They cannot be paying these people enough to put up with this, and it is probably why it's one of the worst places to get food in Vandalia. Not only is it unnecessarily expensive, but they will absolutely waste your time.

I wish there were negative stars I could give this Sonic. Have been here 4 times specifically to order their onion rings. Each time they tell me they are out. When I enquire about this I am told they are under staffed... so, fix it!! In the 25 minutes I waited for a milkshake I heard a couple others order onion rings as well and were equally disappointed. When my shake came I asked when would be the best time to arrive to get onion rings. Instead of getting a time or day as a response all I got was a story about being under staffed again. Obviously I'm upset because I drive 50 miles round trip just to try your onion rings. Who ever staffs the facility needs to staff appropriately or corporate needs to quit advertising that they have the best rings in the industry. Past that, I used to get good malts at sonic as well. Ordered one of those and was told they no longer have those either.... kinda goes directly against the old-school drive-in malt shop theme doesn't it?? I'm not sure I have the adequate words (based in polite english) to describe my families...

Zero stars! Order is wrong 7 out of 10 times at Vandalia!! Today ordered cheddar cheese bites! Got home to find jalepeno poppers😡. Tried to call them because we can’t turn around to go back, rang and rang no one answered. Then they took the phone off the hook!!! Payed nearly 6 bucks for something we can’t eat!!! I keep saying we won’t go back each time they get it wrong, or the food is so dried up and tastes like burned grease… but cave and end up giving them another chance🤷‍♀️. So done!!! It’s really not that hard to fill an order correctly. Mistakes happen, but no one should have to deal with that as a constant!!! A few weeks ago, went thru the drive thru and ordered a drink. Pulled up, sat for 13 minutes and no one ever brought my drink.. they walked out, handed food to people in drive thru behind me, and when that line was gone and I was STILL sitting there they didn’t bother to even come out and ask why I was sit sitting in the drive through!!
