On a recent road trip, I booked a reservation here after reviewing both hotel websites and TripAdvisor, as the reviews here were better than the hotels I checked in Natchez across the river.||My wife and I had a long day on our recent road trip and arrived here after 7:30 in the evening. Jacqueline at the front desk was wonderful, welcoming and outgoing...she represents the brand very well! We chatted with her about travel for a bit, then went to our room. I noticed immediately that the blackout curtain on the right half of the window was not fully attached at the curtain rod, and was missing the pulling rod, leaving a gap letting in light from the parking lot. Fortunately we always travel with a clip clothespin, and I was able to clip the two curtains together to keep out the light.||The room was comfortable, if chilly...it was 68 degrees when we arrived, and we attempted to turn up the heat to 72 but were not successful. In fact, when we awoke the next morning, the temp was 66 degrees. Here and there the room is showing signs of wear, which is likely due to frequent occupancy, and was, in most cases, to be expected. However, there were a few things that should have been handled as they came up in order to avoid becoming bigger issues. One was the baseboard next to the shower in the bathroom that was pulling away from the wall...just reattach it! Also in the bathroom, I noticed in the shower that the dispenser for body wash had come off the wall and was standing in a metal shelf basket in the corner of the shower...just reattach it to the wall! When showering later, I noticed that the water from the shower head was spraying a bit outside the shower area (there is a fixed glass panel but no shower door) and by the time I finished, the bath mat was quite damp from the overspray. Also, there is no hook on the wall outside the shower for a towel...I had to place it on the toilet seat and reach way around the glass a panel to access it; adding a hook on the wall would solve the issue. Housekeepers need to report small issues when they're noticed, and Maintenance should step up their game to stay on top of these things. By the way, one of the 2 elevators is down as well...making me wonder what's really happening here. (We had no issues accessing the 1 working elevator when needed.)||In spite of the chilly room temp, we slept well and the room was otherwise comfortable. We went down to breakfast about 7:30, expecting a crowd (there were 7 Viking Cruise buses in the parking lot!), but we were nearly alone. The woman overseeing the very nice breakfast area was outgoing and friendly. Breakfast offerings were very nice, kept filled, and the area was clean and neat.||As we left I reported the room issues at the front desk, so I hope the management reacts to them. As for a recommendation, I think I would still choose this hotel over all the others in the area that I...
Read moreI’m a little torn in my review, so I left it at good. The hotel itself is very nice. If I am rating the hotel, and only the hotel itself, I would give it all 5’s except for location. The view of the river was lovely, but when I was there for one evening, the riverfront was very crowded, and I didn’t feel safe as a woman traveling alone going out to see the riverfront or taking a walk along it. (Also, Covid was still a concern for me with so many people about.) The hotel is newer and clean and well managed, but it’s also sort of hard to get to and somewhat isolated from other amenities such as restaurants and gas stations. The staff was terrific, knowledgeable and friendly, but even they suggested I’d only find really nice places to eat and get gas on the Natchez side of the river, not the Vidalia side. I thought, no, I’ll surely find something fine in Vidalia, but sadly, I think the staff was right. Vidalia is unfortunately very run down economically. I described the area along the main highway thru Vidalia to my husband as “very sketchy”. I had to visit four different gas stations in Vidalia before finding one with pumps in working condition that accepted credit cards. The other three required patrons to enter and pay inside first, which I did not want to do with Covid, and many pumps were “out of order “. I finally decided McDonalds was my best local option for dinner because it was getting late, and I didn’t want a spicy food option, but one line wasn’t working, and it took forever (on a Friday evening) to get my “fast food”. The hotel offered a very nice hot breakfast. The hotel itself was really nice, but if you plan on leaving the hotel for any additional meals, gas, or other shopping, I would fully agree with staff who said go back across the bridge into Natchez for those things. For me, I would probably just opt to stay in Natchez next time just to be in an area where I felt safer as a traveler and had better access to restaurant options and nicer gas stations. If you’re wanting a really nice hotel overlooking the river, and if you don’t have to leave the hotel during your stay or you’re willing to travel into Natchez if you do leave your hotel, then I fully recommend this Towneplace Suites. I just can’t recommend the town of Vidalia based on my experience in the area. My 3-star review is primarily because of the town/area where this hotel is located. (Remove all valuables and lock your vehicle in the parking lot. There are signs reminding you to do this.) The hotel itself is quite nice, but I had poor experiences with the area and...
Read moreOn February 1, 2019 I arrived at Towneplace Suites by Marriot at Front Street Vidalia, LA from Houston, TX to stay for the weekend. When I drove up to check in at the hotel, I noticed two men sitting down and a female employee conversating. She, the female employee, was standing up smoking a cigarette while talking with the men. I parked my car behind a white truck which was improperly parked and obstructing other vehicles from parking to load/unload at main entrance of hotel. I politely asked female employee while paying for my suite, is this the way a truck suppose to park in the main entrance? I proceeded back to my car to unload my luggage and personal property; I saw the truck was still parked obstructing main entrance of hotel. I went back inside and ask female employee to please let the driver know to move up so I can pull in to unload my belongings onto the cart located in hotel's lobby. Female employee said they (I assume the driver and occupants of the truck) went up to a party a guest was conducting on the 3rd floor of hotel. This was also the reason she did not accommodate my request for a suite on 3rd floor because of the noise from party and gave me a 2nd floor suite instead. Female employee said, I am sorry Ms. Baldwin but she never attempted to make contact with guest on 3rd Floor and ask occupants of truck to move so all hotel guest can pull up and utilize front entrance to get in and out. I proceeded to my car loaded the cart and went to my suite and placed my belongings inside. Then I went right back to hotel lobby and noticed the two men and the white truck were suddenly gone. I talked with another man working at the hotel about this incident and he confirmed what I assumed initially which was the two men talking with Female Employee were her personal guest visiting the hotel and she allowed the truck to park incorrectly at front entrance of hotel. I know this was discriminating and unethical causing my first stay here a very...
