We booked 3 rooms at The Waldoboro Inn for a family event and stayed there for a few nights. Where to begin about our experience?
One of the rooms had no cold water in the bathroom faucet because the pipe vent was sealed off due to a major leak. The bathroom doorknob was also broken. Thankfully, we noticed it early and made sure not to fully close the door to avoid someone getting locked in with no way to open it.
In another room, the closet rod was broken—one side attached to the wall, and the other just lying flat on a very dirty, dusty shelf. One of the windows had a large crack in it.
The third room was missing a comforter, which we only discovered the next day—still sitting in the dryer. It was a chilly night for the people staying in that room. Even after we found it, no one came to put it in place, so we ended up doing it ourselves.
As other reviewers have mentioned a while ago, there is no privacy in the bathrooms due to the sheer drapes covering the windows. Nothing was done since then.
On top of that, the ceiling in the common area downstairs leaked during the rain. We had to place a basket to catch the dripping water.
Another concerning moment: while we were out one evening for a family gathering, someone apparently unlocked one of our rooms—it had definitely been locked when we left. The next morning while packing, we realized a garment hanging in the closet was missing. We reached out to the owners but never received a direct response. Instead, we got an email saying: “Your encouraging words (and 5-star reviews) are wind in our sails and let future guests know that this is the place to be when you're traveling through mid coast Maine.”
Would we recommend this overpriced, poorly maintained place with questionable service? Use...
Read moreI’ve truly never had an experience like this at an inn or hotel (or even Airbnb) before. It was so magical, and every detail was interesting, charming, and thoughtful. My husband and I came to Waldoboro for a mini vacation away from our family vacation. We were immediately charmed by the space, the mix of antiques and contemporary art, the decor. It felt like around every corner was something new and interesting to look at. After swimming in a nearby quarry, we met up with friends at Ida’s (the inn’s cute attached wine bar), where we had organic wine and admired the extensive gardens at golden hour. Our room (Room 1, downstairs) was gorgeous, clean, and spacious. The beautifully tiled and accessible shower was the real star of the show. It was spacious and made me feel like I was at the spa. After dinner at Nina June in Rockport, we slept very comfortably in the queen bed with luxurious bedding.
In the morning, coffee and muffins were set out for us in the charming kitchen. The fridge was stocked with yogurt, bacon, fruit, and local eggs and we made ourselves a little breakfast. There were lots of cozy places to sit and enjoy our breakfast before heading on our way. Even the vintage tableware was just perfect. I cannot...
Read moreI've been watching the progression of The Waldoboro Inn since they first started renovating it, and couldn't wait to stay for a few days during a summer vacation to Midcoast Maine. We were absolutely not disappointed! What a cozy, art-filled experience. So much detail is put into the furnishings and decor, and there's a feeling of being "home" while you're there. You're free to use their well-appointed kitchen, play pool on the vintage table, and relax in their garden wine bar, Ida's. Can't say enough good things. Also, they gave us several excellent recommendations for art galleries, food and drink. Alexa, the owner, spent time talking with us about the history behind the project, which made us love it even more. We'll be back!
UPDATE (8/18/25): We did come back again this year, and loved it once again! Tried a different room this time, and it may have been even more beautiful. They hosted a sweet "paint & sip" event that introduced us to friendly, art-loving locals, and we got to explore their excellent wine selection. Plus, allowing guests to use the well-stocked kitchen is a plus. You don't always want to eat out on vacation, and getting to make a home-cooked meal is a treat. Thanks again to Alexa...
