My fiance, toddler, and I decided to have a nice family outing and go fishing. I’m also pregnant. We were actually here the day prior and had a pleasant experience with other residents at the marina. Today, it was great until a lady, presumably coming home from work, whipped her car in nearly hitting my fiance and toddler. In fact, when she saw my fiance, she actually sped up. I asked her to slow down because there are kids around and she said “this is how everyone drives in here, you’re not even supposed to be here, I live here, there’s never any kids here” (when in fact as we were leaving we saw a child walking across the very parking lot she came speeding around), she was cursing and screaming and she really escalated from there. Tried to tell us it was private property (it’s not). I told her the posted speed limit and she kept going off trying to “call the police” on us. My fiance asked her several times to leave us alone. I stopped engaging with her instigation. Then she went into her boat and got her dog to intimidate us and continued to yell and scream. All because I asked her to slow down. It’s pretty sad we were very happy to find a nice, peaceful, safe place to take our daughter fishing and by the end of the day, we didn’t feel comfortable letting her walk 3 feet in front of us out of fear either she’d get hit by a careless driver speeding around the corner or this lady might let her dog loose on my daughter. So I’m giving 4 stars because the marina itself is enjoyable, but I hope the marina owners will maybe hold her accountable for her threats and enforce the posted speed limit. I have a photo of the car and license plate if the marina owners would like to look into...
Read moreI don't have enough words to describe the wonderful weekend my family and I experienced at Smugglers Cove. It was so much more than we imagined and literally just a great place to get away. The view, the staff, marina owners, boat owners, etc. were absolutely the nicest people and showed us fantastic hospitality. My son (7 yr) had never been fishing before and not only did the marina let him borrow a fishing pole, the owner gave him bait and string to help start his fishing gear collection and other residents at the marina helped show him what to do, gave him things to use, etc. You just don't find that level of hospitality anymore, especially at larger marinas. My family and I will definitely be frequent visitors and more marina's in Kentucky should take notes from this place. This is the type of marina atmosphere I grew up with on Lake Cumberland and Dale Hallow and sadly commercialism has taken over, but not at...
Read moreGreat marina (we didn't use the campground). Nice docks with everything from transient slips with all the amenities to covered slips for all year docking. They have fuel and a ship store with beer available. It was recently purchased and the new owners are great. They've been making many repairs and improvements to all facilities. Also in the summer they have live entertainment and events. The marina is right across the street from a nice restaurant/bar with great views. This would be a great stop for anyone traveling on the Ohio...
