I have never been so dismissed and made to feel so ignored. My dad, mom, little brother, both my kids, husband and myself went to the ridiculously small pool the hotel offered. My dad needed the use the seat that we were told he could to get him in and out of the water. We all tried multiple times to get the seat to work and nothing. This honestly did not surprise because the seat looked like it had never been taken care of properly. There was nasty stuff stuck to it, rust all over the arm and hinges, and it looked like if ever cleaned it hasn't been many times. Walking into the enclosed pool area it looked like fog was in the room. My mom's eyes started to automatically burn and she started to get a headache. My dad became so nauseated he had to leave the pool area multiple times. I ended up getting a horrid headache, and started having trouble breathing and I started feeling really disoriented. My dad trying to help once we figured out what the heck was causing our issues opened the doors to help circulate the chlorine in the room. This did not last long as a woman, that worked at the hotel, came into the room and proceeded to shut the doors. The woman was EXTREMELY RUDE AND DISMISSIVE when my dad apologized and began to explain why he had opened the doors. The woman raised her voice at him and told him policy doors have to be shut. My dad asked if she could turn on the ventilation system because it was NOT on in the pool room. She responded very quickly with maintenance will come about the issue. She wasn't and couldn't going do anything about it. Maintenance NEVER came to the pool room, the ventilation system was NEVER turned on so we all had to leave the pool because it was making everyone sick. I ended up in bed til the next morning. The hamper/towel area in the pool room needs cleaned and the water fountains need replaced. The fountains look like they are NOT cleaned properly or often. They have who knows what all over them and rust around them as well. My dad prior to checking out of the hotel asked them if they would at least close the pool area until the ventilation system is fixed and/or the chlorine issue was resolved. The people at the front desk acted like he didn't exist and that he was being a nuisance. While there I did use the restroom on the ground floor around the corner from the elevators. I am not sure as to what their standard of cleaning is but the toilets 2 out of the 3 had urine and hair everywhere. The sink had not been wiped out either. It looked like something, maybe red hair dye, was all in the sink as well as what I assumed was dust and dirt. The per night rate at this hotel is more than the one inside the Grand Park. The thought in choosing this one was it was at least the same in quality and I wouldn't have to deal with the traffic of Grand Park as much. I will never make that mistake again because I will NEVER be coming back to this hotel. I do hope the hotel fixes the pool issue because it could seriously harm someone that doesn't...
Read moreFirst of all, Marriott canceled, four days before my stay was to begin, my reservation at another Marriott hotel. As I had made my reservation months in advance to avoid the high cost of last minute bookings I felt especially betrayed. Had they let me know at the time they closed the other facility, I could have found better and less expensive lodging. That aside, when we arrived at the Springhill Suites in Westfield the person at the desk was very nice and we quickly were given the keys to the room. I use the term room a little lightly here, dungeon might be a better description. Bats might do well in a place so dark. Not so much people who need to actually see to do things. What lighting there was, except for one light over the desk, was well on the dim side of the ledger. And, there wasn't a lot of it. Oh, I forgot, the reading lights by the bed were sufficiently bright. The bathroom door was glass, frosted, but still glass. So if one person got up in the middle of the night to use the toilet, the light was visible, not bright mind you, but visible to the one still trying to sleep. In the bathroom there was ONE medium towel bar. If there was only one person in the room, that would be fine. Alas there were two. Who would have ever thought that two people might travel together. Surprise, surprise. Then there was the shower. Huge thing. Big shower head WAY above the floor. I am 5' 10" and I could just barely reach up to re-aim it. No problem if all the guest are 6 feet tall. However, most are not. It gets better. The shower head is on one side of this huge shower stall and the shower control is ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE of the shower. So, any adjustment takes a while to get from the control to the shower head. You could freeze or scald while trying to find a suitable water temperature. Oh, there is more. Once you have gotten in the shower, shut the door (yes, DOOR) that opens outward, found a good water temp and are enjoying your shower all is fine UNTIL you shut off the water and step out of the shower stall into Lake Leaky Door. The door does not seal at all well, no matter how hard you pull it shut, so at the end of your shower there is half an inch of water all over the bathroom floor. So now you get to wade in water while you shave, etc., etc. After the first shower you know the drill and can use two or three bath towels as a dam that keeps the lake somewhat smaller, and closer to the shower, but then you have to dry off with a hand towel. Read moreOur St. Louis soccer team recently stayed at the SpringHill for a soccer tournament at Grand Park. The price point to stay in this very new hotel, with a boutique vibe, was very reasonable - $109/ night. considering it was 1 mile from the tournament venue, the team collectively found it worthy. Likewise the amenities, pool (very small but kids loved it), larger fitness center and large lobby with ample, segmented seating and two large TVs to watch sports, were perfect for our large traveling team of 50. That said, those are the expectations of a brand new, modern hotel sitting only steps away from the grandiose sports complex that is Grand Park.
What really made the difference in our stay was the staff at SpringHill. Check in was fast, all team members very friendly and accommodated us from all angles - even meeting us at the door with a thoughtful goodie bag for our soccer team (with our team logo!). It really showed this concierge team went over and beyond. Ive stayed at dozens of hotels over the years and this experience will stand out - especially since it was my daughter’s first out of town sports trip.
Also, I want to shoutout to the Food & Beverage Lead, Coco; she was fantastic! Both Friday and Saturday night she took excellent care of our team parents, starting with her spirit and beer knowledge, guiding us through some recommendations of much needed adult beverages. She offered up shareable plates, served until midnight, that we were unaware of. Even further, she gave insight into local eateries , helpful for team families with food preferences. Bartender Micheal was extremely friendly, fun to talk to and shared his spirit go-tos with team parents which made for great conversation.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience. And while this hotel may not identify as 5 star, it accommodated our variety of needs; large number of rooms met clean and spacious, a stocked bourbon bar, excellent staff, large enough facility to handle travel teams, but still intimate enough to be comfortable...
