IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A REAL REVIEW READ THIS.
We (me + 3 adults) arrived in Whittier to do the 26 glacier cruise. It was fantastic!! We then started to wonder, wow there isn’t much in this town and 75% of the 200 person population all lives in this one, 15 story, WW2 army barracks. But no way, that couldn’t be.
As we went to check in, we checked in at a dive bar with a couple of locals mingling and hanging out. The bar tender then gave us our key. Room 1406 and pointed us “at the high rises” aka THE WW2 army barracks.
We went to drive down the road and a black bear was strolling thru the town looking for food.
Pulled up to the building and some locals were hanging outside and we walked past into the elevator and to our room. When we tried to put the keys into the door a woman’s voice yelled from the inside “excuse me?! Whose there?!” We looked at each other. Back down the elevator, back in the car, back to the bar.
Once we got back to the bar we told the bar tender “someone was in that room”. They the. Proceeded to scramble to figure out what was going on. While that was going on. The local at the corner of the bar leans over to us and says “I’ll give you two a place to stay”. After some exchange with that very nice and potentially scandalous woman, the bar tender explains they gave us the wrong room key and we were room 1405.
Back to the army barracks we go!! We get inside the room (it’s end of august) and the heat was so high it had to be 80* degrees in there.
The place was clean! It was very WW2 vibes + some white paint. Very dated. May or may not catch bed bugs. Beds seemed very old but looked clean. Bathrooms were straight from the 1950’s with pink tile and very small.
We put the keys on the table and drove to anchorage to grab another hotel for the night and chalked up $250 to a good story.
If you have read all this, hope it helped and gave you a chuckle. Maybe I’ll end up on the top of Reddit one day when someone discovers this ridiculous and...
Read moreThe view was great. It was convenient. That’s about all the good I have to say. ||||Check in was fairly easy. However The room wasn’t ready at check in time. I tried to get an answer of when it would be ready but couldn’t. They said they didn’t know. Finally after arguing with them they moved me to a different room. ||||The room is very outdated. Kind of dingy. ||||Found a used tampon in the dresser drawer. No AC and it was very hot in the room. They had three box fans that were VERY dirty. One had a missing blade so it just bounced all over the place and couldn’t use it. ||||It has a full kitchen but barely any cooking utensils. What they do have are mixed and matched. Best to bring what you might need. The microwave worked the first time we used it but not after that. Wouldn’t even heat Mac and cheese. ||||They gave us one roll of toilet paper for three days. There was 5 of us. ||||The blinds where broken and when using them I was worried they were going to completely fall apart. ||||Their designated parking lot was a joke. Just an lot covered in broken slate rocks on a hill. Was worried about puncturing a tire. ||||The reservation says that you get a parking pass and you park in the nice condo parking however upon check-in you find out this...
Read moreMy husband and I needed one night pre fishing charter. Check in is at the Anchor Inn restaurant then you drive to the apartment. Parking is in a dirt lot across the street. Don't park in the apartment lot or you will be ticketed. We were able to use the loading dock and a provided cart to get our suitcases to the unit. The unit is bare bones. Only a half filled container of dish soap, a curled up sponge, and tp is provided. No paper towels, 1 dish towel. Minimal meal prep, silverware or dishes. Couch was worn and peeling "leather". Bathroom original 1960s pink tile with many holes where towel bars had previously been installed and removed. Unit was on 14th floor and was very warm in early July so we made use of the provided fan. We ate at the bar above the Anchor Inn and service was great, food well prepared and reasonable for Alaska prices and was served in "to go" boxes as it is prepared downstairs at the Inn then walked up.Our server was fantastic. Since we were checking out before the Anchor Inn opened we were advised to leave the key on the counter. There's not many choices in Whittier so for a quick in and out before fishing this met our needs. Not the cleanest but not horrible...just different...
