Almost gave it 5 stars, but..... Upon arrival all I could say was WOW!!!! I wished I could have just stayed here the remainder of our road trip. I wish we had not stopped at Alyeska the night before and had spent another night here. We reserved an oceanfront jacuzzi and was upgraded to the best suite in the hotel. in the coupola. It was a two story suite with two of everything. 2 bathrooms - one with jacuzzi, 2 large tv's, 2 fireplaces, a Murphy bed, a sofabed, large table, ref. & microwave, and lots of storage and places for your luggage. If we had been traveling with our kids it would have been perfect. || The Inn has everything the Alyeska resort doesn't have for a third of the price. Amazing view of the harbor and bay!! We watched all the fishing boats returning at the end of the day and even saw a few otter.||Then, the list of little things started to add up.||First issue was that we called a few weeks before our stay and made a dinner reservation. Clerk said no problem I'll put you down. We arrived a little earlier than expected and asked if we could move up our reservation and were told they don't take reservations for two and had nothing down for us. So there is a communication issue. Turned out the dining room wasn't too busy so we could eat at any time, but we decided to get carryout. We were very glad we were able to get food since our supposed reservation didn't exist, but upset because they told us we had a reservation. The food was delicious and the portions were huge. In fact, we decided to save part of it for breakfast and that saved us some time too. The hotel is now serving breakfast but it doesn't open until 7:30 and the internet says 7:00. It would be better if they could open earlier for people that are needing to catch an early tunnel.||As we started to get settled and clean up and found we needed to get tissues and toilet paper as the maid had not left any and there was only one bathmat for 3 bathing areas. Most of the towels had been left in the downstairs bath. There were lots of plastic cups, but they were not in a wrapper and left upside down on the counters, so they didn't seem sanitary. The downstairs toilet clogged. The upstairs toilet seat was loose and slid around. The door to the separate toilet flung all the way open by itself and banged if not completely shut. Soaking in the hot tub felt great after a cold day on the water but oddly the jacuzzi did not have any jets pointing on your back. I hope no one could see in as neither bathroom window had shades. Made you feel uneasy.|| Upon arrival we were cold and turned the fireplace on for a little bit. It didn't take long to warm up as it put out a lot of heat and we were soon too hot but we could NOT get the thermostat controls to change on either floor. Finally, we were able to get a couple of windows open to cool off. We had to keep opening and closing the windows all night to regulate the temperature. One of the windows didn't have a crank. By morning the thermostat had only moved from 77 to 73. So, it was still rather warm. We wanted to watch some TV, but there were 3 remotes and we tried everything and could not get the TV to work, so we just gave up on it. There is no instruction manual in the room to explain anything about anything or give hotel or area info. ||At least sleep quality was good. It was very quiet and we could hear some gulls with the windows open. The bed was comfy and the pillows were excellent. One of the few hotels I have ever stayed at that didn't have plain white sheets. ||Overall, the inn is charming and idyllic. It is very convenient if you are taking the long glacier cruise or going fishing. However, there are a few issues to be addressed to keep the place...

We rented the Cliff House for 2 nights while doing a fishing charter out of Whittier. Photos looked so nice online but we were so disappointed upon arrival. On the kitchen sink we found a dirty sponge, an old used steel wool pad and crumbs in the sink. Then there wasn’t any dish soap. Only Cascade but there isn’t a dishwasher in the house. We had to go to the only local store and purchase Dawn for $18.95 and also get a new sponge and Clorox wipes. A few hours after being at the house we heard gurgling noises in the master bathroom to then find mud and water in the bathtub and a sink that was also backed up. The toilet worked thankfully. When going to bed and pulling the sheets back we discovered a piece of hair on the fitted sheet and several other small dark items. Disgusting! The loft beds upstairs had candy wrappers under the mattresses. Also dead flies in the drawers upstairs. In the master bathroom there wasn’t a hair dryer in the drawers but found a disposable Samsung phone jammed in the bottom drawer. Very poor cleaning of this house!! Floors were tacky too. There weren’t any instructions for the Wi-fi password or how to regulate the heater stove in the living room. I had to call for the wi-if password and how to get the heater working again since the remote had an off button but no on button. They sent me a video showing us how to relight the pilot light. and they brought a hair dryer on the second day. Once they learned of the pluming problem they tried to get a plumber from Anchorage but he never showed up. They charged us 50% for the second night instead of the full rate so that was appreciated. The view is stunning from the living area and this place could be so nice if it was properly cleaned and had an instruction sheet with the...

The restaurant here is apparently somewhat new to the Inn at Whittier. After searching on Google Maps and again on foot, we found the options for restaurants are very minimal. More than one person recommended we check out the Inn. The vibes of this place are excellent. The Inn is beautiful and the views of the bay from the dining room are stunning. Unfortunately, there is still work to be done. Service was slow, very slow. There were a handful of servers darting around the restaurant but no one came to our table for nearly 15 minutes. When they finally arrived they were kind and took our orders. Our table ordered one glass of wine and one cocktail. Another 10-15 minutes would pass before we saw our drinks arrive at the table. The cocktail was just okay. As for the food, we had mixed reactions. The portion sizes were large and even shareable in some cases. Our table ordered halibut, cod, salmon, and Cajun pasta. The reaction to the fish was positive. Nice sized pieces and cooked very well. The biggest issue was with the pasta. As someone who has visited New Orleans on several occasions, I can say with confidence that this is not Cajun food. The sauce was very sweet and barely spicy. I had to add a lot of black pepper just to make this dish easier to eat. I would not order this again. I’m sure there are some quality control issues that need to be worked out and I wish the Inn at Whittier the best. This place has a lot of potential.

My wife and I wanted a place to stay the night before flying out of Anchorage. Just want to avoid the "city". Glad we decided to stay here. It was a great way to wrap up our trip. The Whittier Inn was a nice stay. We got a room on the bay side and with window open, the sound of the ocean provided a nice night's sleep. This inn is not a 4 star hotel, but it has a cool vibe. Our room was a little dated, but clean. The staff was super friendly. We ate dinner here and it was the best meal we had on our trip. The crab was fresh and outstanding. Not a lot to do in Whitter. Few guides and shops but it is not a big town. We took the 4 mile hike out to the Portage Glacier. It was beautiful.
