I am giving it one star solely because after 2 hours of hell and 30 minutes on the phone with the owner he comped the room at my request, with insistent request. We reserved the King Suite here with the pull out couch because we are a family of 4 traveling. Where to start- when I asked for bedding for the pull out couch I was told they aren’t allowed to give bedding or anything extra for room because the owner locks the closet. This was verified, it was locked and they need permission from owner to give bedding to paying customers. We also came in with a car seat, small kids, lots of items as we were on a 10 day road trip. They didn’t help with bags, didn’t help with bell hop, and we COULDNT GET THE BELL CART through the hallway, or around corner to get to our room..they still did not help, nor care that they put a family with small kids and lots of things in a place where we had to take everything by hand. Then after arriving in the room we find out we have no electricity. The outlets not only DONT exists but the very few in room DO NOT WORK and the staff and owner was FULLY AWARE of that when putting us in that room. When we called the front desk said to fidget with something in room to make it work, then when it didn’t and we went down to desk they said you have to have all lights on for outlets to work…so they wanted us to sleep in full light so we could utilize the outlets for our kids noise machine and to charge electronics. They response to me was exactly “well you requested that room”, as if we knew and would have picked a room without working electricity. The staff was unhelpful, lazy, uncaring, zero hospitality whatsoever. Worst hotel we have ever stayed at. The owner was equally rude and told me he knew about the issue, his staff knew but he would not comp the room until someone went up to our room after 10pm with our two minor children to verify it wasn’t working….meanwhile I have screaming children who couldn’t go to bed because they lights were on and their noise machines weren’t working. They have zero place being in customer service or hospitality and frankly need to sell to someone who cares about the work they do and take pride in their company. I am a business owner and never could imagine treating paying...
Read moreI've been staying at the hotel on and off for two decades now and have seen it go through several name changes. My latest visit was seven days. It's on the outskirts of town so it's quiet. You can walk to Flying J/Denny's if you don't mind walking under the underpass. Housekeeping staff are friendly & kind. Most of the women at the front desk are pleasant. One or two need to take a course in customer service to improve their interactions with PAYING guests. The room comes w/a coffee maker and mini refrigerator. The rooms are dated. The light fixtures are coming loose and angle out of the walls a little bit. The electrical outlets will not hold a power adapter in place. You have to stick a cup or a box underneath, or else it falls out of the outlet. The shower has one door which lets water get everywhere. You go through a lot of towels because of this. The beds are hard and uncomfortable. It felt like my head was pointing down towards the headboard. I rolled up a towel to wedge between the mattress and headboard to prevent getting a crook in my neck. It's summertime, so there were quite a few bugs (crickets, beetles, roaches, child of the earth, & flying ants) in the room. There is a huge gap at the bottom of the door (a rolled up towel came in handy) that let them in. But the worst thing of all is the carpets. I've a toddler who'd run around the room & end up with dirty feet. I thought it came from walking outside his grandparents' house or playing in the dirt. We'd get back to the room where I'd wash him, then 10 mins later, his feet are dirty. He spilled water onto the floor, which I cleaned up, but the towel I used was stained dark brown from soaking up the water. Needless to say, we kept our shoes on while in the room. Do I think the carpets need a deep cleaning?...
Read moreStaff was very friendly and the room was very nice. The photos online are recent and 100% accurate. This place was much cheaper and nicer than the place I had planned to stay at in Flagstaff. I will be returning with the family this August and will definitely be stopping here again.
UPDATE: This is now the 4th time I have stayed here in the last two years.
I have worked in a four star, five diamond (Mobil stars, and AAA diamonds) hotel, and have been very fortunate to stay in a handful of similarly rated establishments. I can tell you with no amount of hesitation that the friendliness, attention to detail, and the overall commitment to making our stay wonderful was on par with any of the luxury hotels that I have stayed in. I stayed in 4 Best Western hotels during a drive from Mountain View, CA to Chapel Hill, NC and I wish that the other 3 stays were as nice as our stop in Winslow, AZ. I hope this praise reaches the staff there so that they will know that their hard work (I have done it, and it isn't easy) is not unnoticed and unappreciated.
A note on the town in general, I have stopped there 4 times on cross country drives and everywhere I go there I have always gotten the absolute best customer service. I asked the front desk clerk at the hotel if there was something in the water that makes the teenagers at the local fast-food places polite. She explained that the economy in the area was not the greatest, and with a small number of jobs available the managers basically get their pick from the best and brightest that Winslow has to offer. Further since jobs are so hard to come by the people who do get them work very hard to keep them. I wish we could transplant this type of attitude to larger failing...
