I realize this is a cheap hotel as advertised, but I do not feel they warrant the two stars they advertise. We checked in very late on our way home. This was the 5th motel we had stayed in, from very nice places, to classic Route 66 hotels in various levels of restoration. We chose this hotel from the many billboards advertising $30 to $40 Rodeway Inn stops for the last several hours of driving. The Google result shows $45. That's only if you book online. Walking in the door they charged $78 with tax. The most expensive stop we had made. We got up to the room and the air conditioner unit had not been turned on prior to our arrival. A semi common occurrence with hotels trying to keep costs down. It took much fiddling with the older controls. A dial labeled vent and normal, no idea what that did. Several push buttons akin to the old GM 8 track players that came mounted in old Buicks or Chevys. And a dial for temperature. We punch high cool and turn the dial all the way down hoping to get cooled off before we sleep. It didn't. In the end I slept with a washcloth on my face to try and cool off the room was sweltering all night long. It was cooler outside. I would have opened the window, but we were right next to the giant parking lot light. I woke up in the middle of the night and tried to work with the unit to get some amount of cooling. I unplugged and plugged the unit back in, it didn't have a proper ground pin on a 15 amp plug, dangerous. The compressor finally kicked on for about 2 minutes before kicking out again, leaving the room as hot as before. For about a half-hour I tried to sleep in the chair next to the wall unit but that didn't work either. I didn't sleep well at all, on and off with no part of my body touching any other part.
In the morning I went to the front desk to get toilet paper and to talk to a manager. Yes our room was without toilet paper as well. The front desk person sent someone else for the toilet paper and then disappeared. When we came down to load the car and check out all the woman could say was sorry over and over again. She then had the audacity to tell me the A/C units had all been newly replaced, bullshit. I asked to speak to a manager but there wasn't one on site. She assured me the manager would call and took my phone number. 24+ hours later I have not gotten a call. I'd give zero stars given the option. That's the terrible thing about Google. The lowest you can be is a 1 even if you're worse than...
Read moreReasons NOT to stay here: Room was EXTREMELY hot. It had a wall unit that was not properly functioning. Compressor turned off and on multiple times throughout the night. So warm almost used mini fridge to create cool breeze. Even had to pull out our mini battery operated fans that we purchased for the car and hiking on this trip. My S.O. was so warm he tried sleeping on a chair next to the unit. He ended up using a wet washcloth on his forehead most of the night. Barely enough toilet paper for two people to use the restroom once. No spare in room. When seeing front desk about getting another roll, they did not have any up front and sent someone to get it from another hotel room. The tub... I don't even know how to describe the type of noise and volume the tub makes every time you move or transfer weight. So loud that while my partner was showering it woke me up. Super loud while your showering in it too. Carpets looked so dirty I refused to walk on it with my bare feet. "breakfast included" means cereal, toast, and un-packaged mini hostess coconut donuts Smoking and non-smoking rooms created awful smells for the nostrils and fumes for the lungs.
Attempted to speak with manager about condition of the room, but was told (s)he was off-site and unavailable until after 10am. Lady at check-in took our name and number so the manager could call us back same day... That was after she insisted the air conditioning units were new and apologizing for the missing toilet paper. NEVER heard back from manager or check-in lady.
Google's listed price of $40-45 ended up being $80 when booking through the hotel. This was the most expensive motel/hotel we stayed out during our 2 week route 66 traveling and that included historic landmarks on route 66. Wasn't looking for fancy. Just someplace to escape from the car and heat for the night before moving onward.
Don't waste your money here. Your better off in your car.
We'll never stay at a Rhodeway Inn because of this experience. Might even avoid all Choice hotels...
Read moreI stayed here twice in a week, once going to New Mexico, and then again on the return trip. There were several issues. I had accidentally left acouple items when I left the first time, only to be told when I asked for them back that not only did they not have them, but how would anyone know I wasn't lieing about it. This did not sit very well with me!!! Upon arrival for my second visit I was given the key to a room that was already occupied. This did not sit well with me either as security came into question. The door worked fine when I entered however when I went to get something for breakfast the following morning not only was it not ready but when I went back to my room the key would not open the door. I returned to the breakfast area only to have to wait 10-15 minutes for any assistance while breakfast was set up. The lady had to get a magnet to pop the security cover off the hole that you could put an actual key in as her card would not work either.
I will say however that the beds were comfortable and the AC units worked both times very well. Internet service would work for a time after the front desk was called and in their words it was reset. If you are looking for a very low price it was ok, and if I only needed to lay down for a night I would stay again if it had not been for the question of my integrity and the security issues. I will take these situations into consideration before I stay there...
