La Villa Motel — Hotel in Winthrop Harbor

This place is a dive. Room was filthy, had and old TV, old worn out furniture, uncomfortable bed, holes and dirt on the walls. Cobwebs, dust, and dead cockroaches, cracked tile in shower, plastic shower curtain rod wouldn't stay in place because of the busted up tile. Everything was dirty, long black hair on the sheet when I pulled down the bedspread. No blanket - they expect you to use the bedspread as a blanket/comforter - YUCK, looks like they hadn't been washed in a while. Frayed carpet to bathroom causing carpet tacks to stick up - but wouldn't advise going barefoot anyway - I bought brand new pink flip flops that I wore only in the motel and the bottoms of them were filthy from the disgusting sticky, stained carpet after just one day in the room (stayed two nights - was stuck for arriving late and being at a friend's memorial all day the next day). My cell phone was dead and I didn't know what to do. I was in tears, tried to leave as much luggage in the car as possible. Grocery carts up to doors on outside of building (what kind of people live there). No Ice. Had to buy a Cubs blanket at the Jewel for 30.00. Charged me 15.00 in taxes for two nights. Had to use a regular key to enter room from hot filthy hallway. I am leaving most of my luggage in the garage as I arrived home, and taking out doing laundry as I empty it. This had to be one of the WORST experiences at a motel in quite some time I wanted to check out and get a refund pretty much immediately. We asked for a king and the bed was a queen and was broken so neither of us got a good nights sleep. The bed also has cigarette burns in the bed and stains everywhere. Anything you use will fall apart, nothing was in good shape. We paid $170 for this dump, the motel 6 would have at least been clean. We paid for the jetted tub too, couldn’t find the plug and when we finally did I couldn’t get it out of the drain. The jets worked maybe 3 times the whole time we were there. I tried to give it a shot because they where nice at first, then they weren’t. One incident was after we told them we had a puppy but she’s being crate trained so she wouldn’t be out so they didn’t make us pay the fee at first and when they came to “fix the tub” (never did) made a big deal about it and charged us $50 we should have just left after they pulled that but we just wanted to relax for the 4th and didn’t know if we could get our money back. But they made this a terrible experience and had the audacity to get rude with us. We travel often and this garbage hotel has made our don’t ever stay again list.
