This is a very beautiful, well-sited park with a great amount of activities for the kids. The little train rolls through and offers kids rides every so often, the pool is well heated, and town is only a short few minute drive away. However, this KOA needs a management overhaul. ||||We booked a family getaway (20+ people) at this park and spoke with a very friendly gal at the front desk regarding siting our campsites close together. We were advised that for an additional $25 we would be placed near each other. Most of our party was fine with this (the exception was one person, which I'll get into later) so we paid. After arriving we found out that we couldn't have been more spread out. We brought it up to the folks at the front desk and asked for the $25 back, which they kindly agreed to do after telling us we should call ahead next time to ask for spots next to each other...which we had. Okay, not too big of a deal, but it was annoying that our family was spread all over the campground when we'd initially paid not to be.||||Second issue we had was a family member was unable to make it the night of expected arrival due to attending her daughter's high school graduation five hours away. She didn't feel safe driving that far so late at night. She tried contacting the front desk to notify them they would arrive the following day and was not able to get ahold of anyone. She was able to get ahold of the front desk the following day and found out that since she was a "no show" they had already rent out the spot to someone else. They had already paid in full. After some complaining KOA was able to find them a spot after saying they were completely full (meanwhile there are empty spots all around). ||||Third issue, the man at the front desk made it very clear to us that our $2,000 or so that we paid to stay this weekend was a "drop in the bucket for what it takes to run this place." It was extremely unnecessary and such a rude comment to make that we are very likely yo never be staying at Winthrop KOA. The unappreciative attitude and retaliation we received from the man after trying to hold the KOA accountable was absolutely unnecessary. ||||I will say that one of the individuals in our party thought $25 to be placed near each other was ridiculous (which it is) and contacted the KOA to vent. This was unbeknownst to the rest of the party until the nice lady at the front desk told us during one of our complaints. She also said that the conversation was noted to our account, thereby tainting the rest of our party's stay|| This individual ended up not showing up for our trip and the rest of us seemed to take the brunt of it.||||Overall, a beautiful park, but too many issues with personnel and management to want to ever come back. We will be contacting KOA corporate to request policies and file formal complaints. ||||I promise we are a very laid back group, but when we feel targeted and like pee-ons we are not going to...
Read moreWe are here with our friends (trailer camping) for a week over the 4th of July. Upon arrival and setting up, I ran up to the camp store to get some ice and look around. I walked into the KOA store and was not greeted with hello, but rather, you have 4 minutes. I said, "what did you say?" The kid says back to me, "you have 4 minutes until we close." So my son and I asked where the ice was, grabbed a bag and went to pay. Then, the same kid tried talking to me about how my day was going and if I was enjoying my stay." Like he had all the time in the world. I told him I had just pulled in and was getting settled.
Second upsetting thing is the bounce pillow. It has a huge hole in it and as soon as kids step on, it deflates. 2 Adults need to sit on the hole in order to semi inflate the pillow. This is disappointing. Their kids area is lack luster. They have no train or any of the many activities many other KOA have.
2 years ago we were here the same weekend with the same friends and had problems with neighbor campers being loud. We called the after hours number and it was promptly dealt with, including a visit from police for some very intoxicated gentlemen. We were impressed to say the least. Management the next morning came and apologized for the people behavior and informed us they had canceled their reservation and sent them in their way. Fast forward to current week and we are having noise problems with a group of 3 trailer and 1 tent site. Kids and adults are walking through our sites in order to get to the bathroom, instead of walking around. They are also well past the quiet hours allowing their hoard of children to run around scream, they are playing very loud music and being very loud. My husband and I both have called and texted the after hours number(as per the rules sheet) to ask they be talked to, to quiet down so my family and all the rest of the neighbors can have a restful evening. The manager on the first night never even responded and the partying went on until 1130 to 12 before we finally fell asleep. I have a 4, 10 and 13 year old boy.
Again the next night they started up again and we contacted the manager. They finally did respond to my husband's text messages, but the party is currently up and still loud. Nothing has been done to enforce their rules. We are very disappointed in this Management team.
Lastly, the pool is so murky I made my kids take long showers after swimming. Cleaning the water is not a top priority. The pool deck was clean but some of the chairs were broken.
Winthrop has some weird hours in town, but it is such a unique place to relax. Book this KOA at...
Read moreThis KOA is under new management which is too bad for patrons who have visited the Winthrop KOA in years past. The previous management was friendly and got to know the patrons that came to stay at their facility. Now, it reminds me what a gestapo camp must have been like. I was there with family and friends, we had cabins and trailer sites. (Reservations had been made well ahead of time so that the trailer sites would be next to each other...and that was the agreement made with management. When we arrived, we were scattered around the KOA and the staff got belligerent when we asked why the reservation agreement was not honored?) I had a cabin. It would get to about 95 degrees or warmer in the cabin during the day, and very cool at night. My room was infested with moths and small (very fast) spiders. I rode my Indian motorcycle to the KOA. And on the second day the kids asked if I would "give them a ride?" There were maybe 10 kids and I was happy to give the ride to each. I circled the KOA and dropped each kid off and picked up another. They were thoroughly enjoying the moment and I rode slow so as to be safe. The next to last ride was given to my 10 year old adopted granddaughter. I asked her jokingly when we started if she wanted to go fast? Her eyes lit up and she said yes. I didn't really drive fast. But 3/4 of the way around the KOA, I very briefly took the bike up to 15 mph. And right at that moment, (I don't know his name) but the gray haired guy working at the KOA, near jumped in front of me with a VERY ANGRY expression on his face and motioning for me to slow down. I gave him the "okay" sign, and I did slow down. I gave one more ride, and when I dropped the child off, my daughter approached and told me that the "OFFICE" had called, yelling about my "racing" around and if it happened again, our entire party would be "kicked out." Now I'm a fairly patient man. And when I make a mistake, I can take it like a man. But no man...is going to assault my daughter (verbally) for my actions. I went to the office and confronted the gray hair (hey, mine is gray too). I did tell him to BE a man and confront me if I broke one of their rules. He threatened to kick us all out again. The female that works at the desk (NOT the older woman) apparently thinks she wears a crown...she is a rude talking, selfish, unprofessional...individual! I had heard the new management was terrible. I had no idea it could be as bad as it was for us. It's a nice site...nothing wrong with the amenities. But I will never return. If I broke another rule and my daughter was assaulted again...me and the gray hair would have a different type...
