Super 8 by Wyndham Wooster — Hotel in Wooster

My family stayed at the Super 8 Motel on the weekend of July 9 2016 to attend a family wedding. We liked the location, which as within walking distance of the Secrest Arboretum, where the wedding was being held, and which afforded other recreational opportunities. I was glad of our choice and was completely satisfied with our stay, as were most of my family.

I say "most" because there were two of my relatives (out of thirteen of us) who jumped to conclusions and left without giving the motel a chance. I am motivated to write this review by way of apology to the staff and management for the rude behavior of my niece and nephew. They observed some stains and tears in sheets and towels and interpreted them as evidence of uncleanliness, bedbugs, and possible nefarious activity at the motel, such as prostitution. My niece also took exception to having heard that homeless people had been housed there.

After three nights there I would like to set the record straight and say that I saw no evidence of prostitution--as if I would know or be affected by it if it did occur. Prostitution occurs at even the most expensive hotels, as do bedbugs. And I'm happy also to report that I came home with no bedbugs or bedbug bites. Finally, if it is true that homeless people have been housed at the motel, this is merely evidence of compassion. My niece should not complain because she herself has been on the edge of homelessness herself.

My only real complaint was that the key cards didn't work consistently, so we kept having to go into the office to get them re-programmed, which the office staff did cheerfully enough. I think it frustrated them more than us.

In conclusion, although the Motel 8 in Wooster looks like it has seen better days, especially on the outside, where the windswept parking lot is void of any landscaping at all, it was perfectly adequate for my family's needs, and the price was right. Although the continental breakfast wasn't great, it too was adequate, and those not satisfied with it could walk across the street to the Bob Evans for something better. Zero stars if it were an option. I am shocked to see the good reviews here. Quite frankly that is why we chose here because of all the great reviews. I do have to seriously wonder though, if they are legit. Our experience was identical to the most negative ones here. We were given room 110 I believe. A smoking room. On the bottom left corner of said establishment. Upon entering there was an odor. It's a smoking room, so that was my thought. An old musty smoke scented room. We brought all of our items in. My husband went to get ice and exited through the back door of the room. I opened the door just to see where it led. THAT smell was 10x worse. The most foul smell. After he me back with the ice we started trying to get settled. The mattress skirt was ripped. No fitted sheet. Just a top sheet over a very worn mattress cover. Both had cigarette holes in them. Under said mattress cover was a very stained filthy disgusting mattress. The floors looked like they hadn't been vacuumed in a month. The bathroom toilet & tub were disgusting. Pubic hair was aplenty in there. I can't even relay how vile this room was. My regret is that I didn't take pics to share here, but we were in a hurry trying to pack back up & leave. The pics others have shared are similar to our experience. My husband went to the desk & asked for our money back. He was told no. Give you new room. I wasn't satisfied with that answer so I tried as well. I was met with the same answer too. Why would I want to go look at another room? The whole place stunk. We were there for 30 mins tops. I am a paying customer who was unsatisfied with the product. No refund? Ya know what buddy, you go sleep in that disease infected room. Do you not have housekeeping staff? Maybe you should fire them & start over. Your lack of concern is concerning. I have told everyone of my friends & family of this experience so that they know to avoid that place at all costs. My room was nice and clean. No problems with anything. Everything worked! Nice hd tv. Carpets and sheets was clean but the hallway carpet and stairwell could use a deep cleaning. If I was them I'd call MW Carpet cleaning Unlimited. They are local and are the best in the industry! Soon as u Google MW Carpet Cleaning Unlimited they pop up #1 they are the only ones I know to get cigarette smell out of carpet and stains and grim. But other than that the rooms was very nice and remodeled and no bed bugs to report or any bugs to report. I didn't even look up the reviews before I got the room and I'm glad I didn't because if I did see the reviews first I would have said ... hell nah... to the nah, nah , nah! But it was the opposite it was great and the breakfast was good and the bed was very comfortable, fresh and clean. If u need extra towels you can get them. House keeper is there every day. So they must be under new management or they took care of the problems because I had no problems here. And they had a brand new hair dryer in the bathroom. A coffee maker and the heat lamp worked great in the bathroom also. AC and heater works great. South part of Wooster but other than that it's better than I expected looking at the outside and the ran down area that's being rebuilt. Like they say don't judge a book by its cover. Happy...
