10s across the board here. Really. We stayed one night in June on our way to Bar Harbor and it was a fantastic decision. We stayed in a Shore Side room which makes you feel like you're staying the most luxurious cave ever. The view of Nubble Lighthouse is amazing. All the views are really amazing.
The on-site bar and restaurant, a little auk is a great addition. The bartender was very nice and accommodating.
All the amenities are great too. The shower was so intense and perfect. The defrosting bathroom mirror, c'mon. They've thought of it all. I could easily see this being a place to have an extended stay.
There isn't much going on in York but the views but that is ok. We weren't far from Ogunquit and drove up for a nice dinner at the Front Porch. From what I understand other beach towns are close as well. We did come through on a Tuesday just before tourist season and it seemed like a good bit of things may not open until Wednesday or Thursday. There is however an Ice Cream stand right across the street too.
The lighthouse is maybe a seven-minute walk from the hotel and provides a picturesque viewpoint of the hotel.
The only thing I was surprised about, were the keys. It's an actual key. From looking at the place, I figured they'd have me fingerprint or face recognition into the room lol. Not that it was a major inconvenience but for the prices charged and convenience of carrying a card over a key, that would have been nice.
Check out the pics, they are pretty close to the ones on the site....
Read moreOne of my favorite places in the world to visit and relax. The views of the Nubble Light House are fantastic, check your room description as all rooms wiews vary a bit. They have also put in several new rooms that are built into the hillside, look oretty cool. As others have mentioned the wedding venue is becoming a much bigger thing here, well it is a beautiful spot. So maybe check when booking, or book Sun-Thur. They do have an outdoor food trailer that has cocktails and some food. Foxes Restaurant is a 5 minute walk down the road ( they leave a lantern in the room for night time walks), and great ice cream is across the street. The walk to short sands isnt bad either. The regular rooms appear to have been updated. We came here the first year the VP opened, and it is still an incredible view. It is a tough view to beat in Maine. Kids can be a bit noisy running up and down stairs, but this is "Vacation Land". There is a pool and plenty of lawn chairs to sit and relax, or just sit on your balcony. The VP does have other properties nearby and they will transport there for the restaurant I believe. They werent doing daily room cleaning this year, but would bring towels or whatever else was needed. They also have a morning Yoga class outside in the early morning. A most...
Read moreI live in York and was eating an ice cream cone across the street from this hotel. I noticed an interesting tree with red flowers so I crossed the street for a better look. Hoping to find out what type of tree it was (I have since planted one in my yard!) I walked onto the property, up the driveway to the tree. The office door was nearby so I knocked on the door to see if anyone could identify the tree. No one answered. So back home, I looked up the website and sent an email with my question about the tree.
The response I received was unbelievable! After identifying the tree, the responder decided that they needed to inform me that the hotel was in fact PRIVATE PROPERTY for guests only. They wanted to make sure that I understood that I was not welcome there! They apparently were in the office when I knocked because they knew I had approached the tree/building - but they decided not to answer. This was not any type of private residence - this was the hotel office!
This kind of inhospitable response to a curious neighbor was enough for me to decide that I would never again "BOTHER" them, and I would go out of my way to make sure that I tell as many as I can about their rude response to a simple request for information about a tree on...
