La Mexicana Suite and Resto — Hotel in La Barra

I was happy to arrive at this serene hotel. The ambiance was calm and welcoming and the service was warm. The rooms looked spotless, air conditioned, and well maintained. The decoration and color was lovely. the breakfast and very large and delicious (except for the coffee).

After the first day, the serenity was broken by loud generic pop music that played all day in the speakers outside. It made it hard to read or write by the pool and a little hard to take a nap in the afternoon since the walls are thin or entirely made out of glass.

The good things i noticed about this place seemed to fall apart. Everything was quickly constructed and breaking. The comforters didn’t come with covers which seems pretty unhygienic. The plastic drain covers in the shower floor and the patio are broken and I cut my foot on it so watch out.

The peaceful looking pool, had a weather worn wooden deck, with rusty nails poking out of it so i advise you wear shoes and watch your step. And although I found it amusing to kill and capture cockroaches during my stay, it is not my job so maybe they should get an exterminator.

All being said my stay was ok. The breakfast was truly delicious and the female owner was very hospitable. The location is decent.

On my birthday, I invited a girlfriend to the pool for the afternoon to celebrate. Nothing crazy, just dip the pool and eat something in the terrace. The moment her toe touched the water, the male owner stormed out and started yelling at us. He made it clear that she was not allowed into the pool, and not in my room. I was a bit taken back by his aggressiveness as Ive never had a problem for something so trivial as inviting a guest for a couple hours anywhere else. Either way, we understood his rules as he stated them then and we got out right away. That did not stop him though and he continued to lecture and scold us for about 10 minutes or so though it felt like an eternity. It completely ruined the vibe and we sat on the terrace confused and unnerved.

La Mexicana es un lugar mágico!! La ambientación es soñada: sus colores alegres, las flores alrededor de la piscina, el lugar tranquilo, silencioso, el canto de los pájaros y la música suave suman al confort y la paz. El desayuno es delicioso, y su dueño es la persona más dispuesta y amable, que se brinda a su lugar y sus pasajeros para que lo disfruten tanto como él. Las habitaciones son preciosas!!! La Mexicana me proporcionó dias espectaculares!! La posada tiene una localización perfecta, exactamente entre Punta del Este y José Ignacio.
