On planning a recent trip along The Silk Road, we found most larger hotels in Samarqand already booked, so we settled on a rented apartment - which was absolutely awful. Imagine our delight when we stumbled upon the charming boutique Hotel Malika Prime, which was not only able to accommodate us almost immediately, but also arranged for a car and driver to help with our relocation. Our spacious and quiet room had the bonus of being located over the front door, so had a tiny balcony embraced by national flags, and boasted a view of the park across the street and the stunning Mausoleum of Emir Temur. While the beds tended to be hard, we found this to be a norm across Uzbekistan. Bathrooms were modern and had mostly reliable hot water. Just enough decor touches to remind us we were in Samarqand. Included breakfast was basic but so convenient. The whole hotel was as clean and tidy as a new pin; the shady rooftop terrace a great place to unwind with a cold beer; and at night it was possible to see both the gorgeously illuminated Gur Emir and the tops of the buildings in the Registan Ensemble. The location is wonderful - within walking distance of these big tourist sites, the entertaining bazaar, and a variety of restaurants. While the hotel is near a main thoroughfare, its leafy street is quiet and cool. Best of all? The friendly and ever-helpful front desk staff, who spoke fluent English and always had time for...
Read moreThe hotel is located across a park in a quiet street. My room had plenty of storage space and a safety deposit box, comfortable and clean bedding, bathroom with bathtub and shower, nice clean towels. My room on the 2nd floor, only accessible via stairs, had a small balcony with view to the park which would be a plus for sitting outside and enjoying a drink, however, when I arrived it was cold and rainy. WiFi was good. Breakfast buffet was average upcountry fare, fried eggs, cheese, sausage, porridge, some kind of cakes, etc. Check in was fast, leaving the passport with reception which seems normal in hotels outside of Tashkent, the lady manager very friendly and efficient, however, check out was a bit slow because the guy at reception appeared a bit out of place. The one night cost...
Read moreThe location of this hotel is good being right next to the Amir Temur Park in Samarkand. It's also a 15 minute walk away from Registan square. The rooms were less spacious than what we experienced in other cities of Bukhara. They only have two rooms on the ground floor. All other rooms are on the first floor and one needs to climb stairs as there is no elevator. They have a lovely terrace on the 3rd floor. The breakfast served in the restaurant was average. There are no lunch options at this hotel. They have their own cafe next door which does not have any food and only serves canned drinks as we were told by the unwelcoming staff at the cafe. There is only one restaurant near this hotel which is a fine dining one and not for a quick bite. It's a decent place to stay but not a...
