The atmosphere was very depressing. ||We booked a double room well in advance but when we arrived and were told we could choose between a tiny double with no WiFi, a stuffy double on the ground floor facing onto the sidewalk, and a room with 2 separate beds (we’re a couple requesting 1 bed) but with WiFi.||We chose the twin room and asked them to push the two beds together. This procedure revealed a lot of dirt and trash under the beds. Seems they don’t clean very well. ||The breakfast was sad and rationed. Plastic sachets of instant coffee and a hot water dispenser is not what you expect in a 4 star hotel. The toast bread was hard and dry, like bricks. The porridge was cold and runny. We skipped the breakfast for the rest of our stay and ate outside. ||The staff looked sad and tired and were not welcoming. Most of the time they were snoozing in the dark corners of the reception area. When approached for questions you got the impression that everything was too much. ||The location is good for sightseeing, but there’s no restaurants or sidewalk cafes in the immediate vicinity - so you either take a fairly long...

The room had some charming carved details in the ceiling. The rug looked unclean. The bathroom had a mildew musty smell, which could be hidden by tying the door open. The beds had ripples in them and no cushioning pad. The windows were hung with heavy velveteen drapes as was the closet.|The breakfast was sad. They did have a coffee making machine that people lined up to use, but the offerings were unappealing. Nothing was labeled, so it was hard to know what they were. The eggs were hard fried circles. Nothing was served fresh||The front desk was unable to deal with the simple request of stamps for a postcard or information about where to find them , the front desk clerk also objected to carrying a cup of coffee...
Read moreNicely decorated rooms (also common areas), with the best shower we had all trip. Bed is huge, filling room, especially with small desk and chair. Very friendly and helpful staff. Electrical sockets beside bed, rare on trip. Lovely roof terrace which is much underused and under furnished. Has tables and chairs, which one group used for a take out pizza meal. Next door hotel has furnished similar area with much better seating. Location is good beside Timur mausoleum, 10-15 min walk to Registan, another 1.4 km to Shah-i-Zinda. Probably tough walk in summer. Mini market nearby sells beer (cross the green area with Timur statue). Same street has student type restaurants, burgers, pizza, good coffee as well as local food. Other restaurants around Registan. Lots of steps, 3 floors plus breakfast in basement, no lift....
