I stayed in Hien Guest House II, which is a cute and very clean place with private bathroom, hot shower and air conditioning. The price was 10$/night (single room). Although price for off season should be 8$ what I figured out just later. I booked their 7h tour to the floating market (15$/person if you are two people), which is not the cheapest price as the lady promised, but neither is it the most expensive one. Better go directly to the river and negotiate with the boat owners directly who are eager to find customers! For sure you can get 2-5$ off. Unfortunately the guest house gave us a boat driver which could not speak English which was a little bit unpleasant since we couldn't ask any questions nor did we get any explanations. Otherwise fine, but all the tours are basically the same.||The real downfall came when I asked them to call the bus company for me to reserve a bus ticket to Sai Gon for the next day. All the bus companies also offer pick up service from the hotel which is included in the price. My hosts refused and wanted to sell me instead their own overpriced ticket (50.000 VD more in comparison when you buy the ticket directly at the bus). I asked them kindly to please help me and call the bus company to reserve a ticket, but they claimed not to have the number nor did they want to help me find the number online (both hosts already angry and hostile because I refused their "service"). So I had to step by at another hotel and ask there to arrange the service for me, what they most gladly did! But of course the next day I had to go to that hotel with my heavy luggage to get picked up there instead of just being picked up comfortably at my own guest house. ||If you want to have a clean room this is your place, but don't expect help or service. Better choose a hotel that has no own bus services or tour offers - then at least you can be sure they find the cheapest, comfortable option for you when you want to continue or...
Read moreI got a horrible room but that's not all: I've stayed in this guesthouse for 2 nights on the last week of December 2015. I didn't have the energy to move to another place although my room was inappropriate for living. Earlier to my arrival I called the hostel by phone and asked for an inexpensive room. They said there is a 6$ room which sounded OK for my budget. On my long tour of Vietnam I slept in many 6$ rooms where many of them were surprisingly good. Nothing prepared me to such a horrible room. Its location at the end of long narrow corridor, together with the frying point of the family kitchen make you all the time locked between smelly fried food, ants visiting the pantry, public toilet and bath without soap and various noises. However, that informal unclean atmosphere doesn't compensate you by a personal treatment. I asked for a Mekong Delta tour with a boat; those tours are sold for 10$ all over Can Tho. At 5 pm they told me I must upgrade to a 15$ tour which includes 2 floating markets. Being forced to decide in the last minute I agreed to pay 15$ instead of the common 10$. But all my 4 boat partners paid 10$ and none of them was asked to upgrade. I don't like to make such business regardless the additional 5$. Moreover, hundreds of tourists made the same route as me and my...
