HOSTS: The family running the hostel is super friendly caring a lot for their guests and I really felt at home! They are so lovely. When we said goodbye, I got a big hug. It felt like visiting my family at home ^^ FOOD: For only 1 Dollar you can have an authentic, home-made breakfast, lunch or dinner with them that you might not find in a restaurant. The mum of the hostel always cooks different stuff and she is really good at it. TOURS: They gave me a lot of information how to get around. Even before arriving I was contacted via Whatsapp and got a good tip how to arrive to the hostel by bus earlier. They organized a trip for me and I could borrow their bicycle but they have also motorbikes for rent. When I left, they booked a bus ticket including transfer to the bus station for me. Very convenient. FACILITIES: I liked that the room downstairs is very bright and big. I think it's a good place to sit down and work at yout laptop. The bed (a few beds in a row separated by fabric from one another, it was like adjacent tents) is comfortable and pretty cozy. If you like you can sit on their balcony. I could do my laundry for free there and there is enough space for everyone to dry their clothes. They even have a half-round bath tub in the bathroom. Also I liked that you can refill your water there for free and that they have reusable straws so they are also concerned about environment. Downstairs there is a stage for karaoke with instruments and a small chillout area. One day I was even lucky and could listen to the self-made music of one family member's band which sounds really great. There is also cute puppies you can play with ^^ LOCATION: At first I was a bit in doubt because it's not directly in the center of Chau Doc BUT that's not a disadvantage at all because if you go visit Sam mountain, Tra Su forest, Tapa fields, Tri Ton lake or the temples, you had to pass the hostel coming from the city center anyways, so indeed a lot of sightseeing attractions are actually closer. The distance to Miếu Bà Chúa Xứ Núi Sam is 2.8 km, to Huynh Dao Pagoda it is 1.7 km and to Sam mountain it is 4.6 km. On Sam mountain is also Phước Điền Tự - Hang Pagoda where you can watch the sun go down reflecting its light in the rice fields. The daughter of the hostel even brought me there by motorbike so I could still see it. The city center of Chau Doc is a 3 km distance. But they organized a tour for me, so I could go to the floating market and see the rest of the city. SIGHTSEEING: Also there is so many things to see in An Giang: Sam mountain, Cam mountain, Tapa fields, lake at Tri Ton, temples and pagodas, Bung Binh Tien but my favorite was Tra Su...
Read moreBest Homestay experience ever! Firstly, The Homestay itself: it's a bit out of the city, but Futa provides a free shuttle to get there! Also, can rent a good quality bike at a fair price so it's not an issue. It's also a bit closer to most of the attractions around the area. The shower was really hot, (there was also a bath tub which I'd have love to have tried, but there was no plug and I didn't ask). All the bathroom facilities were really clean, with shampoo and soap. The washing machine was free to use and there is somewhere to hang clothes both inside and outside. The beds are enclosed with curtains, have individual lockers, light and a fan. The style of the building helps to keep it cool, the room is massive, so it doesn't feel like you're in a dorm. The beds are huge, I'm 6'3 and fitted comfortably (and could almost lay across it!)
But the best thing about the homestay is the family. I checked in late in the afternoon and the daughter (who speaks English) give me some great quick tips for sunset, and a few minutes later I was off on a rented bike. The next morning the mum invited me to go on an adventure to Cam Mountain, Tre Su and a few other places which turned it into and increíble experience! She made me feel extremely welcome and took me to places that it seemed tourists had never stepped foot before! They also have an extremely cute puppy that I would like to have smuggled home with me! Don't even bother looking at other places, just stay here!! Also slightly cheaper if you book...
Read moreWe spent 2 nights at Vi’s contacting her directly and it was a superb choice : she answers prompt every question and when I mean with EVERY I must say she goes far beyond an average home stay’ owner. We took the balcony room and it is huge , comes with a lot of amenities ( even conditioner and free laundry ) and A/C was very quiet. Beds are hard like the usual standard in Asia. Vi organized motorcycle, bus tickets , she offers coffees the and some fruits in the morning , possibly is the cleanest place you can find. Vi and her mother are superbe lovely people , who enjoys to welcome hosts like in a real family. Chau Doc is a very busy city and unfortunately propaganda speakers begins around 4 in the morning , don’t expect to sleep more then 5 hours a night if you are a light sleeper and you stay in the center Absolutely...
