Cosy modern homestay managed by soft-spoken Toan and his family. Private room comes with a balcony overlooking lush rice fields, and the air conditioning and fan work well to dispel the heat of summer. There was a slight issue with the water supply, but this is not unexpected given the location.
The food options in the area were limited, in part due to the low number of tourists at this time. I suggest pre-ordering your meals with the restaurants in advance if you are looking to try the region’s specialities as many items on the menu were not available for walk-ins.
Breakfast: Toan offered toast, eggs and fruit one day, followed by pho and pancakes the next. I highly recommend the pho!
Lunch: Take your pick from the options in town, about 1km away.
Dinner: Although Toan had shared that the “tourist restaurants” located nearby in Lac Village would be open for dinner, they remained closed during my stay. Going into town was not viable as the area is pitch dark in the evenings and the roads are not lit. Thankfully, Toan offers simple homestyle fare for dinner at a...
Read moreI loved this place! Ignore the negative reviews about unfriendliness, poor service and lack of food options - my experience was the complete opposite. We stayed here for two nights and really enjoyed ourselves, the staff was extremely friendly and welcoming! They engaged in conversation with us, always had big smiles on their faces and were respectful in maintaining the quiet peaceful energy of the homestay. The food was a 10! We ordered two different sets for dinner and devoured everything - some of the best food I’ve enjoyed at any homestay in Vietnam! Breakfast was included and was a delicious assortment of local foods and fruits. The homestay is also situated in Lac Village close to other restaurants, coffee shops and markets. They had bicycles for us to use and we cycled through the paddies which are surrounded by a lush sea of green! Our room also had the most amazing view, elevated over the paddy next door with a view of the mountains. The room and bathroom were clean and comfortable with a balcony. I’d love to stay here again, and will be dreaming of the...
Read moreI loved this place. The king room was the best of both worlds - a characterful room, in a charming rustic homestay/guesthouse, overlooking rice paddies, and run by a genuinely friendly family. Yet very comfortable with a modern bathroom, air con, king-sized bed, kettle and private balcony with lovely views and good WiFi.||The food in the was restaurant was average but very reasonably priced (60k main meal, 20k beer) so can't complain.||At least one of the people there spoke good English and I did not have a problem messaging him beforehand to arrange a driver to Ninh Binh.|They also conveniently have a credit card machine which was not advertised.||Mai Chau is a lovely slice of country life for a night or two, which felt a lot more authentic and friendly than some other places like Tam Coc. The village was quiet at night (mid week). ||There is a bicycle rental place just around the corner. And there did seem to be an ATM in the town even though I had read that...
