There’s no option for a zero star rating, so one star is pretty high for this place.||||My partner and I flew in to Da Nang airport eager for our next stay in the beautiful Hoi An. On the website (we booked via booking.com) we were promised 4-5 star experience, resort living on the beach, with our own villa - sounds amazing right!? ||Literally as soon as we turned off the main road we both went quiet as we drove through the driveway to the entrance. The place was abandoned, run down (grass overgrown, no maintenance of facilities etc). We were greeted at reception by a lovely lady who then disappeared to call someone. 5 minutes later a gentleman rocked up to greet us- we now believe she had called him to tell him the only guests had arrived so he may as well come to work. ||As we walked to our villa we tried to stay open minded and optimistic about this place. On this walk we definitely realised there was no one else here but us. There was no staff around, no upkeep of pools(murky and muddied water), the grounds were overgrown, restaurants and facilities shut. ||As we were paying a substantial amount for a resort villa stay the price suddenly didn’t feel right to what we were experiencing. The villas I’m sure were once beautiful but are now unhygienic, needing urgent maintenance and unsafe for travellers wanting security and safety. Wifi didn’t work, PowerPoint sockets were faulty and the place probably needed a good vacuum and mop.||We decided to get out and explore the old town to clear our mind about the situation, maybe we were over exaggerating? ||On return to the ‘resort’ at 5pm - when one would imagine is full of life, there was no one, literally no one. We had wanted to speak to reception about our stay options but no one was around, we tried to call reception and the number of the man who had greeted us prior, but nothing. We walked back to our room in pitch black, almost slipping multiple times as the no maintence to the facilities had left the paths full of leaves and moss creating a slip hazard. We could see no lights on in any rooms or facilities - we were alone in a 100+ bedroom resort. The whole place felt eerie and creepy, wild dogs were roaming the resort and flashbacks of horror movies where characters staying at hotels, one by one getting killed off filled our minds. This was when we decided for our own safety and peace of mind to leave. ||We wanted to make sure we were going about it the right way and called booking.com to explain our situation. Understandably they were concerned too and tried to contact the resort, they too were unable to get through. We were told to leave and so we packed our things and made our way to meet a taxi. When we got to our taxi a security guard arrived, attempting to stop the taxi driver from letting us go, thankfully our taxi driver got us into the cab and we were able to let out a big sigh of relief. ||||The following morning when we were enjoying a lovely buffet breakfast and coffee at our new hotel (bel marina resort - would highly recommend!) my partner went to talk to reception about checking out times. Whilst there he was confronted by the man from Le Belhamy resort asking for payment. This was confronting to have someone follow you to your hotel where you think you’re safe, this behaviour felt threatening and made us feel like we were being hunted. My partner told him why we had left- the place was abandoned, run down, not safe and downright scary, to which he agreed. My partner, over it all agreed to pay him for one night to get rid of him. In hindsight we should’ve argued with this more and not agreed to it, but feeling confronted, overwhelmed and wanting this man to go away we decided the cost was better for our own safety ||||I’m sure this resort was once a beautiful place full of life, unfortunately like many businesses I believe it has struggled due to covid. For any travellers thinking of visiting this place in the near future, check before booking, and fingers crossed this place gets...
Read moreThis review is a first for me. I'd like to rate staff and resort separately. The staff are nice. The resort is run down. The owner is older and doesn't have the available funds to upkeep it. It's really sad. The rooms are really tired, they smell musty / mouldy and really dark. The beds are old and dirty , the yards are not tidy. A lot of areas around the resort are mouldy, rotten or rusty. They have 120 units and 4 staff. The breakfast was not there, they did however go down the street and buy breakfast for us. The first unit had no hot water. 3 towels, we were 4, and no other laundry, bath mats, face cloths etc. The pillow top mattresses advertised were non existent. It had an old hard foam mattress, that smelled mouldy. The roof had rats or something in it. They moved us to another room. That room smelled worse, had mould on the bedding and there were bed bugs in the beds down stairs. The sheets were stained, had holes in them and smelled dank. The bathroom had paint falling off the walls This was a very expensive hotel, and the absolute worst I have ever stayed in.
Now, on a positive note. The staff. They were absolutely awesome.
I have not met a nicer man than the manager.
He came from a nice resort, lost his job when it was sold and has ended up here. He is the glue, holding whats left of it together.
If you do look at this resort as a place to stay. Lower your expectations, then lower them a bit more.
We said we had wished to have seen the resort when it was in its heyday. It would have been...
Read moreSadly covid has not been kind to this hotel and, what appears to once have been a lovely resort, is now derelict and abandoned and clearly hasn’t been maintained for years. We were the only people staying in the whole resort (I kid you not) and stayed in a sea view villa with a pool. The gardens are overgrown, everything is green and mouldy, the pool deck is rotten and the pool bar and restaurant were closed. The wifi, phone and tv in our room didn’t work, the bedding and mattress was damp and the electrics were really dodgy as the light on our balcony kept arcing even though it wasn’t switched on. The room was clean and the 2 staff working there were really apologetic about the condition of the place but fully understood when we checked out after the first night. Still we were charged the full rate for 4 star luxury stay complete with bar, room service and restaurant, none of which was available. The beach was also full of rubbish. I feel sorry for the people working there when I warn people against staying, however how they can comfortably advertise this place and then charge people a lot of money for staying there when, if nothing else, the place is dangerous, let alone derelict, is beyond me. I would strongly advise not to stay here unless they put a lot of time and money into bringing it up...
