My mother and I visited A'zambezi river lodge from 18-21 November 2022.
We were welcomed by reception with some juice and Joseph showed us our garden facing room and explained to us how everything in our room works.
The room is a good size. We had two single beds in our room with a TV, bath, shower, mini fridge, safe, hairdryer, wifi and there are also a variety of plugs. And a lot of closet space!
Our room was cleaned once a day and then they did turndowns late afternoon when they opened up the mosquito nets.
The lodge has a little souvenir shop, but the shop does not sell any snacks/drinks.
Next to the shop is the Heritage Expiditions Africa desk. Here Adrian helped us to book all our activities. We were on a tight budget but Adrian helped us to ensure we spent our money wisely and he made sure that all the activities that we did was worth the money. We enjoyed our sunset dinner cruise!
The lodge has a free shuttle that runs from 9:00 to around 16:00, upon arrival at the lodge we received the schedule. The shuttle runs from the lodge all the way to the rainforest (the entrance to the vic falls, which is also very close to the Zambian border where one can walk on the bridge). The shuttle driver is very flexible and you can tell him were you want to be dropped off and they are also very helpful to explain were everything is. Sometimes one of the shuttle drivers/Guides (Tiyani) even picked us up with a 4x4 game driving vehicle and on this trip we saw a lot of elephants in the road with babies.
Our breakfast was included and there were a wide variety of food. I enjoyed all the different nuts they had available and the pastries were also lovely. While having breakfast we saw monitor lizards running around on the grass while we enjoyed the view of the Zambezi river.
We had dinner at the restaurant and a few drinks at the bar. The staff are very friendly and helpful. At dinner there was always some type of entertainment. The a la carte menu prices for dinner varied from 15USD-22USD (with warthog and crocodile being one of the options). Dinner buffet was 35USD.
The swimming pool was such a treat late afternoon after all our activities in the sun. There are towels at the pool and sun beds with umbrellas.
One afternoon we even saw a crocodile while walking alongside the river.
I would go back in a heartbeat! Everyone was so friendly and helpful from the gardener to the cleaner to the receptionist.
The lodge and actually the whole of vic falls accepts Rand, USD, Euro's, etc...
I would recommend taking some cash with you to tip the staff if you like.
Being from South Africa and comparing the prices of the food and drinks, the prices in Vic falls are about 2x the prices in South Africa seeing that Vic Falls purely exists...
Read moreWe stayed there in November 2023. We loved the location and thoroughly enjoyed watching the activity on the Zambizi River with all of the dinner cruises. Being that close to the Zambizi, we enjoyed having hippos on the grounds of the Lodge each night. There were several groups of monkeys as well as some warthogs coming through eating the grass. In the bar and restaurant, Remigio the bartender extradionaire as well as Prissy the all around bar and restaurant server. Each added to making our stay so special. When Remigio could see us coming near dinner time, he would wait for a nod from us and then bring our wine and beer to chairs we positioned close to the river to watch the sites. Having him know exactly what we would want was so appreciated. Prissy was so friendly and helpful and certainly showed her intelligence and kindness. The rooms were adequate. When we first got to our room, there was no refrigerator as well as the screen to the deck door did not work. Those were remedied quickly upon our request. We were disappointed in that we had a garden view since there were many rooms with the river view available. We felt we were tucked away on the last row and pretty much as far away from the restaurant, bar and office. Perhaps that is what we paid for with our package price but looking at other sites to book there, we had certainly paid more than plus the amount for a river room. The room was clean and the cleaning and bed turndown were great. The main office receptionist/cashier Nokukhanya (?sp?) was amazing. She was extremely proficient in running the office and it's many demands. Whenever we had a question, she was quick to answer or figure out a solution. She is instrumental to running the Lodge. At the Lodge they have a Tours Desk run by Heritage Expeditions. Adrian was the manager of the Tours Desk and when we asked for a complicated day trip to Livingstone, he was able to arrange Zimbabwae side and Zambia side guides to get our tour taken care of--and at a quick pace. It was amazing what he accomplished and the cost was extremely reasonable. I wish we had found his services earlier in our stay. As I stated, he and his guides were so helpful and watched out for us completely. We would have struggled terribly trying to do our excursion on our own. The breakfasts were wonderful and the dinners were very good. The people, staff and tour leaders as well as the location and animals certainly added to a wonderful...
Read moreI unfortunately broke my foot while visiting Victoria Falls (not at the hotel), and the staff at the A’Zambezi went above and beyond in supporting me through the entire experience. I would absolutely stay here again, and highly recommend it to anybody visiting Victoria Falls!
First, I found the accommodation to be a fantastic value. The location is good with wonderful views of the Zambezi. The rooms were compact but clean with everything I needed. Everything worked just great.
Second, the staff is generally fantastic, but they stood out in their support to me while dealing with a broken foot. They helped to arrange taxis to and from clinics in both Vic Falls and Livingstone, they brought me breakfast to my room, brought ice to my room for me to treat my injury, helped me greatly with checkout and packing my bags. Even the little things like helping me walk to and from my room (before I got crutches), providing a wheelchair, bringing coffee to my room for me. I’ve traveled enough to know that these are things hotel staff will help with especially for a fee, but they far exceeded my expectations.
Zulu (technically an employee of Heritage Expeditions and not the hotel) was my taxi driver the night I went to the clinic in Vic Falls. He’s a super friendly and great guy who drove me to the clinic, helped me get in and out, and took care of me returning to my room a couple hours later. He even went back in the morning to get my crutches and medication, paying out of pocket himself (I reimbursed him). I can't fully convey how great of a guy he is.
Victor, the tours/activities coordinator, was especially helpful. After breaking my foot, he helped me to reschedule a dinner cruise. Then, when I was delayed returning from a clinic in Zambia, he personally ran to my room to grab something for me (since I couldn’t run) so I could make the rescheduled dinner cruise.
Joseph, one of the porters/staff, was very helpful in just getting around. There are so many others whose little gestures and efforts went a long way in making my stay as good as it could be under the circumstances.
The only (very minor) criticism is that the wifi was a little spotty at times.
10/10 would recommend this wonderful place, and if I ever return to Victoria Falls, I will...
