Fin's Fish & Chips — Local services in Corio

I don’t usually leave reviews, but I felt like this needed to be said because what I experienced at Fins Fish n Chips was honestly unacceptable. I went in for what I hoped would be a quick, easy dinner, and I left with food poisoning and a whole lot of regret.

First of all, the hygiene and professionalism of this place are seriously questionable. While waiting for my food, I noticed 2 young girls, they couldn’t have been older than 5 or 6, in the back of the store, behind the counter where food was being prepared. They were screaming, laughing, running around, and honestly making a complete ruckus. At first, I thought maybe someone’s kids had just come in to visit briefly, but no. They were back there the entire time, clearly unsupervised or at least not properly managed, and definitely not wearing any sort of hygienic gear or following food safety procedures. One of them was even climbing on things!

I don’t know who thought it was okay to have small children in a working kitchen, especially one that serves food to the public, but it’s not only unprofessional, it’s dangerous. It creates a chaotic environment and makes it impossible to believe that any cleanliness standards are being followed.

Within hours of eating what seemed like a basic piece of battered fish and chips, I began feeling sick. Stomach cramps, nausea, and I’ll spare you the rest of the details, but it was enough to keep me home from work the next day. No one else in my household was sick, only me, the one person who ate from Fins that night. So, it’s pretty clear where it came from.

This whole experience makes me question how this place is being run. If you’re allowing kids to roam around the kitchen, what other corners are being cut? Do they even have food safety certificates? Are proper temperatures being followed? Because after this, I really doubt it.

I don’t care how good your prices are, if I can’t trust the cleanliness of the kitchen or the people preparing the food, I’m not coming back. Ever.

I would put less than 1 star if i could.. got fish and chips from here and took them home to unwrap and everything was oily and soggy, not only that, when i called to let them know of the issue i got attitude and got told they dont do oily soggy food so it must be my fault because of how long it took me to get home, very argumentative.. i was home 3 to 4 minutes after pick up so it definitely wasnt that.. the attitude of 2 different staff members i spoke to was absolutely discusting.. will never go back there again.. waist...

Just got fish and chips here. Bit into what I expected was a fillet of whiting to find a 3 cm bone now stuck in my gum. Not pleasant. Spat that out and rinsed my mouth and reluctantly picked up a chip. I don't know what oil they use but it tasted like it was cooked in shampoo. Lucky I had some acidic coke to rinse my mouth out with. Absolutely disgusting. Never...
