Iâm writing this review following a deeply upsetting experience I had at Billâs Scoops in Kardinya on the evening of Thursday the 24th of July I was refused service solely because I was accompanied by my fully trained and legally accredited service dog an essential aid to my daily functioning.
The staff informed me that the food being âat foot heightâ meant they could not serve me, despite the fact that Australian law is unequivocally clear: individuals accompanied by a qualified assistance animal are legally entitled to access all public spaces, including food service venues. The Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth) explicitly prohibits such discrimination.
What compounded the situation was the dismissive tone used by staff. I was spoken to in a way that made me feel unwelcome, judged, and dehumanised. As someone managing a disability that already imposes daily challenges, this incident left me not only frustrated but deeply emotionally hurt. I walked away feeling humiliated, shaken, and disrespected.
This kind of treatment is not just unlawful it is profoundly damaging to the dignity and well being of people with disabilities. It reflects a troubling lack of awareness and empathy within the business.
I urge the management of Billâs Scoops to take immediate steps to educate their staff on disability rights and how to appropriately interact with individuals who rely on service animals. This is not just a legal obligation, but a moral imperative in fostering an inclusive, respectful environment.
I will be sharing my experience publicly and filing a formal complaint with the Australian Human Rights Commission. I urge other shoppers to carefully consider whether they wish to support a business that shows such little regard for the rights and dignity of individuals with disabilities. No one deserves to be discriminated against in this way.
This serves as a reminder that disability inclusion is not optional, and treating people with dignity and compassion should be the minimum standard not...

They had just gotten in to the store. Itâs people like this that make us want to shop at the bigger chains as theyâve got no customer service experience. I understand if my kids were being rowdy and unsettled. But they werenât. Wonât be...
