On Thursday, 25 Feb 2021, I visited Spudshed in Kelmscott to do some shopping. It was a quiet afternoon when I arrived at around 2.40pm. Many of the displays were rather empty and waiting to be restocked. I filled my trolley with my shopping and proceeded to the checkout.
There was only 1 cashier opened at the far end of the row of cashiers nearest to the entrance/exit. There was a customer being served at the cashier and I'm the only one waiting in the queue. So I pushed my trolley slightly closer, near the beginning of the row of cashiers. My thoughts were to be slightly nearer the cashier at the end of the row so that I can approach her faster when I'm called. All with good intentions and wanting to be helpful.
Then I saw another staff approaching to open up a second cashier counter. I was anticipating eagerly for her to signal for me to approach her counter.
What I never expected next was for her to tell me off in a stern, unfriendly manner to get back to the part before entering the cashier's row. That I'm supposed to wait there behind the line until she called.
I must say the line was faded and secondly, my trolley was covering the faint line. For a family oriented and supposedly friendly family owned business, with a kind and charitable owner, having a staff tell a customer off for something as innocuous as not standing in the right place of the queue on a quiet, peaceful Thursday afternoon came as a shock.
All she had to do was simply a friendly reminder , to this 62 year old man to wait behind the line next time, until I'm called. That would have reflected well on the good staff training that Spudshed has provided their staff.
Still in a state of disbelief and somewhat shaken, I tried to explain I was the only one in the queue at that time, and was only trying to be helpful by standing nearer so that I can bring my trolley to the counter faster when I'm called.
She was not in the least interested in my explanation and being shock by her behaviour, I asked to speak with the manager. By this time, another of her colleague had joined in and asked me to move on rather rudely and asked if I was buying and not to block the passageway if I'm not.
Trying to comprehend the situation that was unfolding and trying to explain my good intentions, my voice got louder when the staff called me obstinate and rude.
When the manager, Kyrstal, appeared, she was very defensive and said she could hear me shouting. Now with 2 staff accusing me of causing trouble, I decided not to buy the things I had in my trolley.
When I tried to reason with manager, the both of them told me to leave the premises if I'm not buying. That I can bring the matter up to Head Office if I'm not happy about the treatment I received. I replied that this supermarket is open for business and I'm a customer and why are they chasing me away as I might decide to buy something after all.
They ushered me to the porch just outside the entrance of the Supermarket. I was standing there trying to make a phone call when they said that the area I'm standing on is considered private property and if I don't leave, they are going to call the police to evict me. They only left me alone when I stepped into the carpark.
I'm still in disbelief with the whole bad experience and treatment. How did a customer waiting to pay for their purchase, ended up being told off by a staff for something as harmless as not standing at the proper place in a queue behind a faded line on the floor that is being covered by the trolley, then when deciding not to buy in the face of bad customer service, get chased off the premises by the MANAGER.
I respectfully hope Mr Tony Galati gets to read this and respond appropriately. Thank you and...
Read moreSubject: Spoiled Chicken Food Poisoning. Date & time of purchase: 24/09/21 @ 11:23 am.
Description of meat: 2 trays of chicken drumsticks.
Location of store: 2853 Albany Hwy, Kelmscott WA 6111
.On the above subject please be advised the meat purchased was brought home rightaway. Without waisting time we began to clean the drumsticks only to encounter the foul smell. But we continued to proceed with the cleaning and observed the slimy & discolored chicken. We then proceeded to clean the entire trays of chicken with running water & then finish the cleaning with white vinegar. We tested the drumsticks by cooking a few pieces. Upon consuming the cooked chicken it wasn't edible to finish them. This resulted to 2 of us suffering with diaherria!
The expiration on both the chicken trays have been dated as 28/09/21.
The reason we didn't return back to the store was because we live in Maddington and with the construction in and around Kelmscott will take us more than double the time to there. Plus the fact we have an ill couple to attend to. The only reason we went to shop at Spudshed at Kelmscott was because we had a few business errands to run there.
This experience is unbelievable & left us in shock. I'm from Texas, USA. To have encountered a scenario like this would definitely call for a lawsuit, no question about it. But the fact this is being brought to light is because we don't want ANYONE ELSE to suffer this way. And this could also result to a life & death situation OR does Spudshed just not care & are we just a number?

Read moreUnfortunately a very similar experience to the Jandakot store. Some of the produce was mouldy and much of it was just as expensive as any other store or was from China so that really sucks when you want to buy Australian grown produce.
They don't have any scales in the produce section either so that makes it very hard to know what you're spending.
And please make sure you check the per kilo prices!! Spudshed doesn't have this listed on the price ticket like the other supermarkets do, so it is very easy to pay more for your items then you would at any other grocery store! There are apps and websites that will quickly and easily do this for you and you can download the Coles and Woolworths apps to your phone so you can quickly search up prices in other supermarkets.
It's great to support local but always compare prices and stick to the specials to...
