Tip Top Meats — Local services in Melbourne

I’ve been here 3 times now, but I don’t really see any reason to go back.

The first time I was looking for duck legs, despite having duck on their website they in fact have no duck at all. All good, more niche one so didn’t worry me too much. Despite taking time off work and specifically going to this place because they had duck on their website.

The second time I was after beef short rib, you guessed it they don’t have it. Whatever, again not the most common cut but surprising from a shop that prides itself on range of cuts.

The third time I wanted chicken thigh, and they… didn’t have it? They had Maryland chicken, which seems to be the thigh and part of the drum deboned. The chicken itself doesn’t appear to be in any way a premium chicken, I imagine it’s the same barn raised stuff I could get from Woolies, except very poorly trimmed, if even at all, and I need to butcher it myself? Right.

Granted they do retail some brands which actually offer something over a supermarket, like grass fed, and finished, no antibiotics etc etc. Oh wait I can also often get that at a supermarket? I can actually get far nicer chicken from a supermarket. And I can get the cut I want.

What’s the point? Go to a supermarket and get the same stuff for a similar price and you don’t have to make a specific trip.

They obviously don’t actually do any butchering on site so no benefit of a butcher cutting something a particular way etc.

I’ve shopped here since they opened years ago today the staff again showed me how amazing they are, my son began to have a little overstimulation tantrum as he has Autism and the staff where so helpful bringing my box of meat to the car they didn’t need to do that but it just showed me again why I have been coming here for so many years is the fantastic service and truly wonderful staff.
